Imagine that the Debt Support Group has been asked by your local high school to talk to the senior class about debt and credit cards. Each member will be asked to stand up and give a 3 minute talk on either their experiences with debt or to talk about an aspect about being in debt thay they may feel expert about. IT IS NOW YOR TURN TO STAND UP AND GIVE YOUR TALK TO THE CLASS! WHAT WOULD YOU TALK ABOUT?
I hope to hear from you!

I think I would talk about how it's not important to "keep up with the Joneses". If your friends have a big-screen, it doesn't mean you need one. If they have a $50K car, it doesn't mean you need one. I think that would be my topic. :-D
Wouldn't it be great if we actually 'could' speak to kids about our experiences and what we've learned?

I think I'd talk about the importance of syaing current with billpaying and how important it is for so many different reasons.
(I just got off the phone with a friend who's husband isn't taking care of the bills, and she's sort of in denial towards her responsibility in the situation....so that's why I picked this topic.)

I don't know if they'd HEAR what we were saying, LOL, but on the off chance *something* would stick in their heads...
I would tell them that if they keep their lifestyles to what they can comfortably pay cash for, and not worry about what others say/do/think, they will be FAR ahead of the people who try to keep up with the Joneses. It may not always be glamorous, but they will have walk-away power, which those who are up to their eyeballs in debt do not have. By this, I mean, they are financially secure enough that if their job gets to be a crummy place to be they can walk out the door and not worry about where the money to pay the bills will come from. (I want that kind of financial peace, y'know?)
Either that, or I'd tell about feeling the lowest of lows when we were faced with a gazillion bills, no money and an infant that needed formula and diapers. That was an eye-opening moment all those years ago.
