I sold a lot of personal belongings on ebay. Unfortunately, I spent the money myself and applied nothing to my debt. I can also get sucked into looking at the items for auction. I was just looking at the site now and thought, "no! I better get over to Debt Support instead of browsing anymore. But if you have a lot of control and, after you've done your home inventory, I suggest you sell your items through ebay or the local newspaper.

If you don't need the money right now, you could consider donating it to a charity. That's what I've been doing. My neighborhood frowns on yard sales (although I love visiting other neighborhoods to see theirs! :-D), so it's just easier for me to call a local charity and sit the items outside by my garage door and have them come pick them up. They leave a receipt, and I keep a detailed record of what I donate during the year.
I used to drop the items off myself at the charity, but one day the lady who runs it saw me looking at some cute placemats and other items, and she said, "Oh No...you're getting RID of things....go back to your car and go home. You don't need anything new". And she was right. LOL! I didn't need those placemats, but had she not said something, I probably would have bought them. :-D
