Selling our junk...where to start?

I have been reading lots of posts on here lately and now I have a FULL reading list, website list and some great starting points. One thing I've read previously and something I've seen touched on here and there is that if you're in a lot of debt and you have a lot of stuff, you should GET RID OF some stuff.

I think that a lot, how ridiculous it is that we are in so much debt, yet we have an iPod, 2 computers (ok, one was given to us by my brother), 2 printers, 2 tvs and SO much stuff, we're growing out of our apartment quickly! I feel like we should get rid of a lot of our things and use the money we raise to help our situation.

But where do I even begin??? I don't even know what to start with, or where to sell it. We did sell one of DH's 3 guitars on eBay last year, but eBay seems like a hassle with not always good results. I don't even know how much of what I have would even be of any value to anyone else. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might find some hidden treasures at home, or where to sell, etc?

Thanks!

If you live in a warm climate, you could have a yard sale. I know some people on the board sell books on amazon.com. or half.com

Just a thought.

I think the easiest is a yard sale/garage sale. And if you don't live in a summy climate you have time to get ready for it.

Good luck!

Do you know of a nearby auction house? We recently made almost 500 dollars by just taking some unused junk to a local auction house. They sold it on Friday night and we had the money on Tuesday. Since we are moving, we are taking another big load there this weekend, if it doesnt snow! Other ideas are: consignment shops for childrens clothing and toy sin good condition. flea markets: is there a local weekend flea market? you can usually rent a table for under 3o dollars and then all the profit is yours.

I do ebay, but only for small items like dvds and books. Its too much of a hassle to ship the large stuff.

good luck!

I have 500 cookie jars. We started the collection about 8 years ago.
Our kids, now that they are adults, think that we are nuts and have told
us they do not want them, ever.
We have thought about 'willing' them to our 3 year old grandson but maybe
500 is a little much.
Any suggestions on how to thin out the collection? We live in MN, if that
makes any difference.

The items that you sold at an auction house...was it in good condition. I have very old bedroom furniture that is in average condition but it has a lot of scrapes on it from wear and tear. Just wondering if that would sell in an auction house?

Have you considered advertising your collection in your local newspaper? You never know....there might be a bakery looking for items to decorate their business, or another collector such as yourself who would love to buy them from you.

As for willing some to your Grandson, maybe you could pick out certain ones that might be extra-special to him and pack them away just for him, rather than the whole 500.

Thanks for the info.
It was sure fun collecting them. I dread the thought of trying to thin some out.
