A little good news on a not so good day

Okay, so I sat down this evening for a minute.. all the children let me have, but that's another story.. and figured out how I was doing in getting our debt paid down since we got our tax return. Well, let me tell you I have done fabulous!! I managed to pay off nearly $2,000 in credit card bills, doctor bills and a couple of misc. Christmas presents (those only added up to about $50). I'll grant you, we are still pretty deep in the hole, but I can see the sun up there.... and it looks mighty good. :)

I was wondering, someone here mentioned something about a website where you can get your credit report for free (something about signing up and then canceling before you're actually charged)... I was wondering if whoever you were could post that site again, kinda would like to check it out. Also, there was some mention of the rating... 700's being bad I think and 500's being a little better, could someone explain this to me, or is it explained on the website??

TIA :)

Congrats on paying off debt - it always feels good!

I don't know the website that you are referring to but I am fairly certain you have your numbers turned around. The higher the score, the better. 800s are really good, I heard the national average is about 680. My score after bankruptcy was in the mid 600s.

good luck!!

I believe you can go to free credit report.com and that everyone (at least in certain states but I think it will eventually be nationwide) is entitled to one free credit report a year. I live in ohio and i think we have this now, i'm going to go there now and check it out!

Hello Vicki - congrats on making progress!

Now that the free annual credit report law has passed, there is *no reason* to have to sign up for any of those companies.

The official website is www.annualcreditreport.com - when you can get the freebie depends on where in the country you live.

All my best,
