Can't believe my MIL said this to me!

Before I go on this vent, let me make it clear that I adore my MIL and we are great friends. She is just one of those people who is an impulse buyer and focuses more on "stuff" than savings. She said they have about $5 in their account eventhough they make over 100K per year!

So anyways, she knows how hard we are saving our money and paying off debt to build on her property. And also that I'm tight with money :) Well, she was online looking at Cancun- going on and on about it and how nice the beach houses were ($2000 and up/week) I really didn't think she was SERIOUS because we just went to Disney . So then she asks me if I could manage $1000!!!(to pitch in for the rental house) I'm thinking "HEllO...you know our plans to build and I can't save when I give you $1000! Plus airfare and spending money!!" She goes "Just use your income tax refund!" (The roof is getting replaced and the rest goes to cc.)
I was so proud of myself when I said "Not this year", because I usually say "I don't know, maybe." I then said sarcastically that we didn't REALLY need a new roof after putting it off for 3 years- and the kids wouldn't need to get baths anymore because the dripping ceiling could wash them clean! I think she got the hint. I hate telling her no, because she gets so excited about stuff. But my finances come first.

Just thought I'd share ;0 Nicki

I'm glad you told her a firm NO! As nice as it would be to afford something like that, a house and financial security are so much more important to some people. I really hope she respects how you handle your money in the future as well.
