Well, I think the plans I had for these next couple of weeks before the first paycheck for the new job arrives are all messed up now....I had to pick up my prescription drugs this afternoon, and WHOA!!!!! They were over $150.00!!!! I am in a phase in my insurance plan where I have to pay the next several hundred dollars of expenses before the drug discounts are applied......oh, man....PAINFUL! I have to hit my emergency fund to get thru now until that next paycheck.....yes, the one I got this week is almost all spent, but the rent took a huge bite out of it...... I knew the drugs were going to be high, but I wasn't ready for that high!!!! ow, ow, ow.................. I used my debit card........ I guess I'd really hate to see these things on my credit card.....
And then I stopped to get my mail, and when I passed by the garbage pail that is there for the unwanted mail, I saw coupons for a grocery store I go to for things I use.....everyone got them, and everyone was throwing them away....so I became, GASP!, a garbage picker for those coupons...........I hope no one saw me, but they'll help my budget these next few weeks.......
I also added up my total debt load today.....wrote in my financial notebook the total under the heading: REALITY CHECK. I am so motivated to keep it down....and NOT ADDING TO IT!!!

Good for you!! Way to go! I'm so proud of you for working so hard to keep your debts down while going through this difficult period. And as for the "trash picking"--I'm proud of you for that too. You saved those ads from going directly to the landfill without ever even being used, and you saved yourself some money. Who cares where they came from?
I'm actually a huge fan of the "salvage" art. I am not above stopping to pick up things that have been discarded by the side of the road--my sons have a turtle sandbox (that they use as a wading pool, after it was thoroughly cleaned), I have many beautiful plant pots, we have tools and garden furniture, and even a few items around the house that were originally headed for the landfill, but are now serving out a second life in and around our home.
I also know several people who "dumpster dive" on a regular basis, and they find some really good stuff that is just being thrown away. We worked out the "hourly wage" one time for dumpster diving on an average night (counting only items that they collected that they wanted and made use of), and it came out to around $40 an hour, and it's tax-free! LOL These are just ordinary people, with regular jobs, good haircuts, and clean clothes when they're not trash-picking LOL. They see it as a community service--keeping things out of the landfills--as well as a responsible way of keeping their household expenses down.
Anyway, I'm proud of you for how well you've done, and so excited for you that your first paycheck will be here soon. Woo-hoo!
Blessings,
Heather
I've been updating my debt info too, Littlesbigs.
All my best,
Danni
Bravo to you Danny! You are absolutely correct - you are in debt and you are honest about it. You know exactly where you stand and you have a plan that you are working to get out of debt - you should be proud of yourselves. (P.S. good luck with the WWatchers - I here they are an excellent program)
Littlesbigs - good for you for grabbing those money saving coupons and using them - shame on those who threw them out - what a waste. I use to make fun of my dad for "garbage picking" until I moved into my own apartment and he garbage picked me a vaccuum, 2 lamps, vcr, and a microwave - all of which lasted more than 5 years. I NEVER make fun of my dad's GP anymore.
