Any other single women w/ no kids here?
| Fri, 03-25-2005 - 3:27pm |
Hello, I love reading this message board but sometimes I don't relate to the posts becuase it seems like most people are married and have kids. I am interested to talking to other young working single women like me and what kind of debt concerns they have.
Anybody, or am I alone here?? :)

Thanks Cheryl,
I was able to pay off my CC's by looking at my income versus my expenses. I make a pretty good salary for someone my age, so I couldn't understand why I had so much trouble making ends meet. Up until the fall of last year I was paying way too much money in general. There were bills that I couldn't do anything about, like rent and my car payment. But I also had bills that I could do something about. I was paying 475$ to a hospital for medical bills for something that happened a couple years ago, that was toatlly not my fault. I filed a lawsuit and won. With the money I got I paid my lawyer and the hospital. There wasn't much left over, but I got to save and extra 475$ a month. I consolidated my student loans freeing up another 200$ a month. I got cheaper car insurance (was paying 8000$, found insurance for 4100$...same coverage....gotta love NJ)....
I also learned how to live on much less money. Instead of paying 60-70$ a week on food, I learned to cook, and spend way less on food. I didn't by clothes or shoes for about 8 months. I saved everything I could. Ten months later...I paid off almost 7000$ in CC debt....I have my last CC bill to pay off this month (400$ to Best Buy)
I'm throwing a virtual out of debt party later in the month!!!!
Good luck,
Sarah
I am 34 and single! I do have a child, but she is with her dad 1/2 the time. Unfortunately I bear the majority of the financial obligation (basically I don't have to buy food for her when she's at her dad's, but I do buy most all her clothes and pay all her daycare - her school is over $10k per year alone, and I pay him child support), and of course all that does make budgeting harder. I know there are some women here that are married and no children, I am not sure how many are single with children like me, and I see there are quite a few single w/o children. I think there can be a lot of common ground no matter what your personal life situation - although being single the big difference is not having to convince another person to get on board with your budget plan - I love being in charge of my own finances. I can make myself stick to my budget easier than I could make someone else stick to it, and if I go over budget it's my own business and my own problem to deal with.
Edited because I put my wrong age!!!
