Sunday evening annoyed

Well, I had to take an uncle out for a holiday dinner, and I was expecting he would pay for the meal because he said he would, but when the check came the man who usually makes a big show with his $100 bills suddenly acted funny...took money out of his wallet to pay the bill with a minimal tip and just kept counting it over and over. He insisted that we spend all this extra time sitting at the table talking(I can't blame him since he sees practically no one but me, but he drags out the visits in annoying ways....often I have to say: It's time to go home now. I have to go to bed. and he keeps trying to keep me from leaving, practically blocking me so I can't get out of his apartment...so I just drop him off now instead of going back inside the house after an outing........I told him to make friends at the senior center, but he won't go.) ...3 sets of people came and went behind us and dear uncle was asking for a lot of attention from the waiter...so we couldn't leave the waiter a measily tip since we sat there so long, but dear uncle would not pay extra on the tip, acted like he had no other money, so I had to charge the meal on a credit card. I picked a cheap restauarnt, thank heaven, but when we arrived I think he was disappointed with menu, and I think he wanted to go to another place that is much more expensive, but if this was going to happen, I 'd rather that it happened at this cheaper place. (once I let him get away with changing restaurants after we were seated, and now he thinks I'll do it again because he likes driving around so the visit never ends....never again!!!) Of course, there was this sudden outburst of "oh, I'll pay for the next meal," but I wasn't too thrilled with him although I tried to be nice and not show how annoyed I was. I had not brought any cash with me since he said he'd pay the bill....so I had to charge it. So annoying! Well, learned my lesson, right?

We drove around for an hour to visit the new job's location, then he bought me a coffee and pastry, and then I finally ended the visit and dropped him off at his door but did not get out of the car....Have to get ready for the job tomorrow.....!!!!!!!

Thank you for letting blow off steam. So annoyed how expensive things are for me right now and do not appreciate these annoying surprises.

Hey littlesbig! Sorry your evening went so poorly, but I bet some of it was stress from the new job. My patience is always shorter (sometimes non-existant when I am worried, nervous or just plain stressed).
I don't know if this is the case with your uncle, but I can't help draw from my personal experience. I wonder if your uncle spent money at resturants just to get people to spend time with him and now he really doesn't have the money to spend. My parents were that way. Spending money they really didn't have to get attention and feel worthy.
My Dad is gone now, but my Mom (who is only in her mid 50's) is a little like your uncle. Outside of work, she doesn't do anything on her own. It drives me crazy!
Hope your new job is going well.
