Seems that many of us have a "plan" for debt reduction, and anyone who wakes up on a daily basis knows that life seems to get in the way of our plan sometimes - there are even days when it seems that fate is working hardest to intervene and stop us from making progress.

All my best,
Danni

Without a doubt, for me, it is checking in here and being accountable for my new lower balances! This board has been the turnaround that I needed and I am so glad that I found it one day back in November of last year! So, thank you all for keeping me going!

deciding to be happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, but that you had decided to look beyond the imp

A couple things keep me going. One is the knowledge that if I want to send dd to college or have her grow up living in a house, I am going to be the one to provide those things for her. The other is the idea of remarrying, and wanting to have my finances under control before I merge them with someone else.

This is kind of silly but one thing that motivates me is "I want to be just like my parents when I grow up" thinking!

I'm the lurker who posts every now and then. Becky, I can relate to your post. I've always used my parents as role models too. My mom was a waitress for 35 years (she was also the one who handled all the family finances) and Dad was a milkman (door to door). They both worked very hard. They raised three kids and we never felt poor. We always went on a family vacation once a year and dinner out on special occasions. They paid cash for everything except mortgage and car payments. They both retired at age 62 but my mom died of cancer at 67. Dad had no clue as to their finances but mom had left a detailed inventory of everything in their safey deposit box. Turns out she had over $225,000 stashed away all over the place. With this money, the house paid for and Dad's monthly pension he's living a very comfortable life right now (at age 72 and going strong) and he thanks my mother every day!!

The dwindling balances on the cc's. A lot of times, that will keep me from spending. I also have a "wish list" for when I have extra cash or when the balances are very low on the cc's.

What keeps me going is our dream of moving to Houston! We are trying to be in a position to move at the end of this year. We want all our bills paid off (credit cards, cars, etc) and a good savings account before we move.... Right now we are trying to be done by December. My personal goal is to be done much sooner!

We want to TTC once our debt is paid off because we want me to be a SAHM and until the debt is paid off we can't do that.

I'm at the point where I'm not chomping at the bit to have another child, but I'm slowly getting there... Perhaps if I were, we'd get the debt paid off faster- LOL!
