I am officially fed up with and disgusted by our telephone bill.
I had www.packet8.com (look up on clark howard site)
for about 6 months. It worked perfectly. All calls
were free no matter how much you talked even to Canada.
It was 20/mo, plus i think federal taxes.
You get a box, you plug your phone into the box.
I also used www.dialpad.com, actually for a couple years,
until I got XP, and the thing didn't run on their site
for XP. It was free for a long time, then they started
charging like .005 per minute or something.
This one used a headset, but, the people you talk to
picked up their phone. Not good for incomming calls.
There was also a slight delay, but, I had dialup then,
it probably works well with dsl or cable.
We use AT&T Callvantage and I really like it. I haven't noticed any clarity issues, it just sounds the same (at least on our end and no one has told me it sounds different to them either). Sometimes it is frustrating to have the phone cut out when our cable is down for whatever reason, but I just make sure my cellphone is charged up and use that instead. This doesn't happen that often though. I was nervous to switch to VOIP, but I thought I'd give it a try and have actually been very happy about it. It costs us $35 a month and that is for unlimited calling anywhere in the US. I really like that too!

All my best,
