What was your very first job?
How old were you when you got it?
What did you think of it?
What other sorts of jobs have you had in your lifetime?

My very first job was cleaning Port-a-potties, I must of been 11 or 12. I got paid like 10 for a whole afternoons work. UCK! I also had a variety of low paying, menial jobs as a teen. I painted fences, worked on a chicken farm, babysat, and was a cashier.
I think of my first real job after I graduated from university, when I was hired as a visiting nurse at the age of 23. I loved it, in fact I remember saying to my DH that I liked it so much it was like I would do it for free!
What was your very first job? I worked at a very large flea market in a "store" inside the building. I sold wigs and hairpieces. It was very boring because there was about 2 customers per day. The rest of the time, I stood around watching the place like a hawk.
How old were you when you got it? 12
What did you think of it? BORING!
What other sorts of jobs have you had in your lifetime? They say the average person changes careers 3 times in a lifetime - do you fit the mold? I never really changed my career. I do graphic design, but when I first graduated college, I had a hard time finding a job, so I worked at a photography studio for awhile.
My first job was working in my uncle's video store, I think I was 15.
I have had lots of jobs but only one career. In addition to the video store, I have worked in a candy store, a Baskin Robbins, a one hour photo shop (several actually, it began with a short stint in photography school), a grocery store (first as a bagger, then as a checker), as an office manager for an auto glass installation company, a bad check collector, billing clerk for a law firm, pizza delivery person, waitress, and collector for a jewelry credit card company (first a collector, then a collection manager).
My career is as a CPA. I pretty much had the same job as an auditor from the time I graduated college in 1997 until last summer, although I did transfer within the same company to a different city once, and when my firm fell (Andersen), I went along with my whole office in joining a firm across the street (same job, same co-workers, same clients, different company). I now work as a regular accountant (still a CPA though).
If I was going to switch careers (which I may or may not do at some point) I would either become a personal financial planner (using my same skills and getting some additional certifications, although being self employed and health insurance is a concern, more likely to happen if I remarry and he can support the family for a while) or I would go back to school and become a psycologist (pretty much need to win the lottery to fund this one, but this is what I would really like to do).
My first job was kitchen help at a catering company. It was fun, but very early hours. Before that, I did the usual babysitting and newspaper route.
I've also: worked in a gift shop, worked at a kids science centre, worked as a parts driver, worked as a counterperson at a deli, entertained at birthday parties, been a program director at a community school, taught children's craft/ science classes at community centres, been office staff at community centres, and been a daycamp leader/manager several times. I usually worked each job for about 3 years, although 1 or 2 were only for 3 months. (I only ever worked part time, as I am still in school. I also usually worked 3 jobs at a time).
Now I work as a tutor. It's fun, but very busy.
I have yet to have chosen a first career.
What was your very first job?
Mowing yards for people.
How old were you when you got it?
I can't even remember that long ago. But like 6th grade.
However old you are in 6th grade.
What did you think of it?
I loved it! I actually saved enough to get a little motorcycle
keep it up myself, etc etc etc, and have money to do things.

I can't say about 'career change', because what I consider it is
the natural idea of moving forward in life.
- Cook at red lobster, 16
- laboratory technician
- army
- environmental technician
- industrial engineer, but worked as environmental engineer (air pollution)
- industrial enginner, japan
- air pollution engineer (what i do now)
- retooled in 99-2001 to be a computer programmer, that didn't work out.
- now i have a side job where i am retooling to be a semi-electrical engineer/
high level field service person.
looking back it seems like a lot of 'moving forward', but i actually just
started making over 50k last year (i'm 40). So, not too much cashing in
on a lot of work so far :( BUT! This side work thing is looking to
turn things around very well :)
If I can save some significant money, i might try to get some investment
partners and open a resteraunt. I'd be the general manager, at least till
everything was very smooth.
All my best,
Danni
I can totally relate to that.
One of my short term summer jobs in HS
was putting fiberglass insulation under
people's houses....
it was H E L L.
the dude paid by the job, it was like
$12/hr, compared to $4/hr at red lobster.
he paid some...before he split to take over
the FOUR hotels his dad owned in HAWAII!!!!!!!!!
and, in addition, he had not been submitting taxes
on us, the part he is supposed to pay, so at the end
of the year, I actually get a freakin bill from the IRS!
