I'm beginning to feel hopeless

I posted my background on the Q&A board, but right now I'm just so frustrated. I feel like this whole situation is hopeless.
Last week I pulled copies of mine and my SO's credit reports. We want to get married before the end of the year, and attempt to buy a house when our lease is up next year. I knew I had a ton of debt, because I got into trouble with credit cards my first year or so of college. These cards haven't been paid on in three, and in some cases, four years. I am finally within five months of graduating, and right now, I only have classes until 11:30 in the morning, so I figured I'd be able to get a fulltime job (in addition to my part-time job on campus) and pay all of these creditors off. I was feeling really good about everything, seeing that in all actuality, $8,000 in credit card debt is NOT that much, and that I'd be able to pay a huge chunk of it before I graduated. Then I found out that I'm out of money at my campus job. I can only work six hours a week from now until June, and that doesn't even pay my utilities. In addition to that, all of the jobs that were available a month ago are no longer there. I've applied many places; some telling me that I'm overqualified, and others just not telling me anything at all.
I saw an end in sight! I saw me actually being able to pay this stuff off before I graduate, so I could start paying my student loans off immediately after graduation, and rebuild a good payment history. And now I just feel horrible about myself because I can't even get a crappy job.
Sorry, just needed to vent. Thanks for reading.

Hey - many of us have "been there"!
All my best,
Danni
I know one of my credit cards was just transferred to a collections agency. On my credit report six months ago, it was still with the original creditor, but last month I received two different settlement offers from a collections agency. When I requested my credit report last week, there was no mention of the debt anywhere on my report. I'm assuming that this is because my original creditor no longer has the debt, and the collections agency hasn't reported it yet?
What do you mean by the debts may be discharged already? I've heard of charge-offs, but not discharged. Thanks in advance. :-)
