Yesterday morning my cell phone broke. Totally unfixable. I hadn't realize how dependant I'd become on this stupid little piece of technology. I have no home phone, so my cell was my only means of communication. I checked my voice mail from a payphone, and had 11 messages (some of which were actually important). At 9:00 last night I decided I needed to replace my phone, so I went to Best Buy. I have no cash for the week and left my checkbook home. I do have a CC with Best Buy, but it's all cut up. When I got there they only had fancy picture phones (I guess they don't make the "no frills" kind anymore)..They were more than happy to look up my information and put it on my recently paid off account...

So $126.50 in debt later....I have a brand new fancy picture phone that I still have yet to figure out how to work.....

Who do you have your phone service through? Alot of the times, they will give you a free phone (or minumum amount due) if you sign another year or 2 contract.

Another great option is to check your local classifieds, or, if you have a local version, craigslist.org.

All my best,

$126.50 was my "upgrade fee" including tax and a charger. I've had Cingular since 1997, back when they were Comcast. I signed up for another year contract with them. If I didn't, the phone would have been much more. I probably should have switched to Verizon, or Sprint so I could get a free or very cheap phone.....
