Wage Garnishment ???
| Thu, 04-28-2005 - 6:52pm |
My boyfriend received a notice of wage garnishment along with his paycheck today. We are totally surprised. This debt came from a rental lease approx. four years ago, while he was going through a divorce. I don't know alot more info on the matter right now ... but I'm just wondering how or if you can stop a wage garnishment?
Does anyone know? Do you know of any sites/links that could help me understand the whole wage garnishment thing???
Thanks in advance,
Thia

Make sure the garnishment is signed by a judge. If it is, no you cannot stop it. If it isn't, you may have some leverage but I'm not sure exactly how you would go about looking into it. Maybe call whoever the garnishment is from??
Check this link for some more info. I'm learning payroll at my work, so I'm really just learning this stuff and I don't know alot of details.

Here is a terrific wage garnishment link from the Nolo Press:
All my best,

Thanks Danni for the info and link, I'll check it out in a few minutes. I don't think he was served with any papers, we have lived together for one and a half years and this is the first time I've heard about it... but who knows perhaps he was before we got together.
Nice bird ... what type is he? I have a Sun-Conure, named Tiki.
Thank you Cherfer for the link, I'll check it out soon. I don't know if it was signed by a judge, I'll find out more tonight when he gets home. He was very upset on the phone and I didn't ask to many questions. (YET!)
Good luck learning the payroll stuff.
All my best,
Danni
