Hi all,

Just a friendly reminder to everyone that this is a support board. I want to list the Rules of Play here one more time (in addition to cl-phocid's reminder) just so no one misses it:

  • Banish "You shoulds." We are here to acknowledge our personal truths, not to tell each other what to do.
  • Banish "How could you's." This group is a safe place to share a trying aspect of our lives. We are not here to judge each other or to put anyone else on the defensive.
  • Bring your humility. A humble attitude is important. No one is better than anyone else.
  • Do not spam. Solicitations are forbidden by iVillage's Terms of Service, and that rule will be strictly enforced here. So don't even think about it.
  • Foster a supportive environment: Remember, we're here not just for ourselves but for others as well. Listen openly and carefully to each other and share only what you are comfortable with, when you are ready.

A few other things to consider . . .

Before posting: I ask each of you to read

Just thought with so many new posters and tax refunds coming in, it was time for a bump. :)

Hi, Kerri. Those tips are reminders to be mindful of all things written. Phrasing things a certain way or perhaps using different terms (i.e., adverbs, etc.) might help. I do have a question---what if a poster is using words that are defeating in nature, or replies in a really negative fashion. I cant think of a good example, but a dumb one--i.e., "all x's are bad", or "that -----'s" (not a 4-letter thing). Do you delete, ignore, forward, report, etc? Do you call them on it? Whiz.

Hi Whiz - these are good questions.

All my best,

Hi, Danni--You and Becky have always been a source of inspiration and "politically correct" advice, with a flair for the undramatic, and knack for getting thru the nuts and bolts. Most everyone here is wonderfully supportive and encouraging. That's why this board is unique and caring. That dog of yours--well, one look, and that would make anyone stay in line! Hee hee. Whiz.

I think so too--but wanted to add that sometimes what may come across as negative is really meant to be said w/ good intentions. I would never go as far as name calling, etc. or judging anyone for their mistakes, I've made my fair share. Having said that, coming from a learning experience I think that constructive criticism has its place--when used tactfully. I would certainly want someone to tell me to avoid X,Y,and Z like the plague if they already knew better than I did. But wouldn't want them telling me how stupid I was for considering it. KWIM? ;)

Hi, SJ. I agree with you. Have come before this place and laid everything out on the table, so to speak. Have probably made my fair share of rambling, stumbling, etc., but if it helps one person (my crazy journies with debt, IRS, etc.), and if I can learn, no matter how hard it is for me to try (again!), I want to do it. I would definitely want someone to tell me if I am doing something stupid---like getting another cc, or not researching something enough, etc. With regards, Whiz.
