My close friends, family and co-workers all know the fiasco our finances are in. More for a support system for me than DH. My brother was very helpful in trying to help us out. My mother knows about it but won't "talk" about the taboo subject. She thinks if you don't talk about it, it will go away. NOT. No wonder 2 out of 3 kids have followed in the diaster path of financial affairs. I don't think our neighbors are particularly aware since most of us just wave as we come and go from our busy lives and we don't know each other personally.
Great topic! Not too many people in my everyday life know about my debt, my Mom does to a certain extent and my DBF knows all of it. Other than that, I come here for support and I am so glad I have found it all here! You all are amazing, I don't know what I would do without you! Since coming here I feel so much better about where I am with my debt and I have made HUGE strides in reducing it thanks to the snowflake challenge. Thanks!!
I haven't told my parents about it, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I mean, I'm 32, have been married for 12 years, and it's not in my nature to run to my parents with every aspect of my life. They didn't discuss their finances with me growing up, so I don't discuss mine with them. I do, however, know that they hate credit cards and think it's silly that so many people use them. That's part of why I would never tell them what my debt balance is. :-D My inlaws, however, although they don't know how much debt we have, I wouldn't care if my husband told them. Simply because they are also in debt (about $20K or so), so it's not like they could make a judgement call against us.
No, I don't suppose many know our financial situation. We have a student loan for our sons college education total $15,000, we should have had more saved for when he went to college...again hindsight is 20-20. I don't think anyone knows that, its not a secret but no one in the family has ever asked. DH and I talk about our finances quite regularly but we really don't discuss it with anyone else. Our other debt is our vehicles but we will get those paid eventually as well. cindylee
I don't think anyone knows, I can't imagine someone asking or me having a reason to tell them. My family and friends do know that money is tight for me, but I don't volunteer details. It's not so much that I feel the need to hide it, more just that the details aren't any of their business and it would seem strange for me to share that. So just you guys know.
Our families know we are holding off on TTC until debt is paid and are aware there are some student loans and car loans. What they probably don't know is there is about $7500 of credit card debt, which I call my "single mom" debt. It's at 0%, but it's still there.
Our total, non-house debt, is $20,000 and we expect that to be gone in just over a year if our schedule holds.

I don't think anyone really knows how much we are in debt.

deciding to be happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, but that you had decided to look beyond the imp
