iVillage is interested in knowing how people come to certain boards and then keep coming back.

All my best,

What brought you to the DSG, and what keeps you coming back?

Well, what brought me here was my debt.

What brought me to this group was the realization that I needed to do something with my debt, the need to not feel alone on the journey, the need to confide in people who understood what I was going through and wouldn't look at me as being a bad person for having debt.

What keeps me coming back is the friendship, hope, successes of those who have become debt-free or have paid off one of their debts, and the feeling of control it helps me to maintain over my finances. When I feel myself slipping and wanting to shop and buy things I don't need, I come to the DSG board and suddenly I dont feel the need to buy things. :-D

I think I started coming to the board in 1999, I guess I'm a SLOW learner. I believe I saw Ivillage advertised on Lifetime TV. I wanted to get out of credit card debt, I believe we had $8000 at that time, we paid it off a few years later and now I'm working on the vehicle loans, and a student loan we took out for our sons college.

Actually, the cl's have always been great, but Danni is definetly one of the best this board has ever had! I go through phases of when I post, but I always lurk. The great people on the board, the support and information is what keeps me coming back. Also, the ivillage site is easy to use, even though it goes through changes from time to time.

I've lurked for a long time, and found the board on accident. I've been on ivillage for years, so I'm not really sure how long it's been that I've been reading this one. I decided to join the snowflaking in December, because we've just hit a point that it unacceptable for me. I think Becky put it best before - everyone has their own level of when the debt just kicks you in the butt and you start to panic.

I stay because it helps me a lot to know that others understand what it's like, and are willing to rejoice with me over the little things that I conquer.

So...I guess...ditto to all that Becky said. :)

I honestly don't remember how I got here. I was already on some parenting boards, I guess, and happened over here one day about three years ago.

As for why I stay--mostly, it's the incredibly supportive environment, the fact that the rules of play and our terrific cl's and mods make this a pleasant, nonjudgemental place to be. The fact that it is an active board helps.

Early on, I stuck around because I appreciated the support I received. Now, I stick around because I like feeling like my experiences might be able to help people who are where I was three years ago.

I have lurked here for a long time, and over a year ago was inspired by the "snowflake" stories to put myself on a Debt-Loss Program. The real "ACK" moment came for me not when I reached a certain number, but when I realized what debt was doing to me personally: how horrible, guilty, and ashamed I felt.

I also felt the need to finally confide in someone (most importantly, someone who wouldn't judge me for owing money). I chose here because everyone seemed so supportive with one another, and full of great ideas.

So I guess what brought me to this group was, as Pat said, the need to feel that there were others like me, who would *listen* and really understand.

What brought me here? What keeps me coming back?

Weeeeelllll,
The HOW of why I'm here is because once upon a time, I used to be fairly active on the FLYBaby Board. We were discussing how it would be so cool to get our finances under control 15 minutes at a time-this was before FLYLady started her "FACE Your Finance" thing. I decided to go on a "field trip" over to the Money Channel of iVillage, and here the DSG was. DH & I had pretty much hit that point that we were tired of paying for our yesterdays with tomorrow's money, and wanted to make a change.

The WHY of why I'm here is because ever since I started, this board has been such a great influence on me, lol! I'd only been here a month or two when someone made it to the debt-free side. I remember what an impact that made on me. That was when there was still a "Debt-Free" board, and the joke was to "save us a seat". I'm going to get my seat yet!

What keeps me coming back is that each and every one of us has something to offer here. I have NEVER felt like a 'money dummy' here, even though I *know* I've done some boneheaded things! This board has a great camraderie and is my touchstone to keep me semi-on track. I know for certain that I would have never snowflaked so much last year had Julie (jbtex) not changed my thinking, and my promise to Becky to actually keep TRACK of the flakes.

I don't think I could do the debt-free thing without support, and thank goodness I can come here!
