Hello All!

I have been browsing this board for quite a while now and have come across some very useful information. Right now a have a bit of a financial dilemma. I have been on Family Medical Leave Act for a couple of months and my checking account got messed up. Basically with fees, I do not have any outstanding checks. Even though I have paid the bank 350.00 in fees they will not let me re-open my checking account and I have also been put in ChekSystems. Now that I am back to work I would like to start having my check directly deposited, but the couple of banks that I have went to will not open me an account even though I paid off my previous bank. My bank said that the information will stay in ChekSystems for 7 years. I am trying to get back on my feet financially since I have had to go so long without a paycheck. I took off work because my mother is very ill. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of a bank that will open an account if you are in ChekSystems.

Thanks for your help!

I'm still in cheksystem b/c of a returned check (paid) four years ago, so I feel your pain.

Give a credit union a try. I work at one, and we generally try to go by more than just what the computer spits out. If you explain your whole story, they will probably be glad to help you open an account there. Plus, the fees are generally lower, because it's member-owned and there's no corporate bigwigs to support. hehe. That's my plug, anyway. I'm a huge fan of CU's, even if I didn't work at one. :)

Maybe think about just opening a savings account and having your check direct deposited into that. That's what we had to do when we were first married and had gotten our checking account closed by too many overdrafts.

When I was ready to pay bills, I'd go and withdraw the money and go to the drugstore in town and get money orders. Yes, it was a HUGE hassle, but at least we didn't have to deal with not having any kind of account.

Good luck-

I agree with you. I don't have a checking account now, but I do have a savings account and I have my paychecks direct deposited along with my child support checks. I do buy money orders for some bills, but others I use automatic bill pay and they just take the money out of my account and that's less money orders I have to buy. This works out well for me, for now anyway. That is a good option.
