Hey, I haven't done this in a while.

So.............

At the moment you are reading this....how would you handle this? You are moving a piece of furniture, and you have found a bill that fell behind it that you did not pay yet. The bill is for $200 and is due May 31. Considering the holiday weekend and your current financial picture, what will you do? Do you have to take time off from work to drop off the payment? Do you have the money to pay for it or do you need to find someone to help you? Will you call the creditor and ask them for more time or to let them know the bill is late? Will you just it pay it late anyway? Is it just one more thing going wrong?

Thanks for sharing? Littlesbigs

I'll admit. i got lucky on this one, as my dhs paycheck was deposited early due to the holiday!!! Else, I would just pay late, probably. I have wiped out my savings account over the past month taking care of unexpected therapy expenses for my dd. For what came out of it, I am happy about that!! Looking forward to rebuilding...Heather

It depends on who it's owed to. If it's a credit card bill or something that will show up on my credit, I will see if there is a way to pay online and have it credited the same day (even if I have to pay a transaction fee). If it's a bill for the lawn guy or something that won't show up on my credit, I'll just put it in the mail and let it be a little late. I should have the money, because I budget way in advance what bills I owe and which paycheck will be used to pay them, and when I get my paycheck I set aside money for bills first. If I didn't do that, then I have a little cushion in my account and could squeeze the grocery and misc items I plan for each pay cycle a little. If that doesn't cover it, I would use a cc to pay the bill, or pay it and use a cc to cover another expense and then commit myself to paying the cc the next paycheck or with the next few paychecks.

Hi, lurker here, have decided to come back and join in the fun on snowflakes. You know, the "missing" bill thing happened to DH. Of course, I initally got the blame, as I had paid the last of the bills. Found it under a pile of junk. Animals had knocked over a pile of stuff on the kitchen table. 52 pick-up, literally. Naturally, bill is due now. So, he paid online. This was AFTER we spent hours looking for stamps we couldnt find. It is so much easier. I also set up a phone thing where the credit card company can deduct from my checking account, extra amounts of my choosing. Does this help? WHiz.

I would just take the money out of savings and pay it and then replace the money in savings with my next check. I have done that before and it works fine.

Fire drill? Very sensible thing to do once in a while... good idea!

My initial reaction after discovering that bill would be frustration ;-)

If it was a payment from my students loans or such a thing, I'd take the bill to the bank and simply pay it, using my emergenacy fund for that. You don't want to be late paying THOSE bills. Gives a bad rep to do so...

If it was anything else I would not care that much and have no qualms to pay a day later.

Most likely, actually, I'd try to send the money via online banking (pretty usual around here), shortens the time till they have their money coming in.

Greetings, Jordis

I'd write the check and walk it in, if possible. DH's payday is the 31st, so it wouldn't be a problem. We have automatic bill pay on some of our bills, but I take the money out right on payday with all the rest of our bills so they don't get forgotten. The money for one of those bills would go to cover the 'new' bill. The next step would be logging on to our ING accounts and sending some money to the checking account!

Yay! A Fire Drill where I didn't even have to THINK of using a credit card! Whooo-hooo!

Lisa (who's now wondering which of us this exact scenario will be happening to in the next couple of weeks...LOL)

If it were a bill from somewhere in town, I would be able to go pay it Tuesday.
