They took my $ anyway!

Ok, I posted last week about a Collection Agency calling me demanding a $350 payment which I could not afford, however they broke me down and got my debit card information. I had called them back and told them I am not authorizing this payment to be made, under any circumstances. After a huge long argument with them, they finally said, ok, we will not debit your account. HOWEVER, yesterday they did! In the amount of $342.37. I just found out this morning. I am so livid! i am supposed to be making my first payment to CCCS on Friday, but I don't have the money now because of this collection agency. I immediately called my bank first thing this morning. They filed a dispute and told me it could take up to 10 business days to get the $ back. They also told me to contact Visa's dispute department and file a dispute with them (Visa is the one who's logo is on my check card). I faxed that as soon as I got to work this morning. My bank said that Visa usually takes between 2 and 4 business days to credit your account. I just don't know what to do now! I don't have the $ to pay CCC America on Friday, my account now has a negative balance of $25 - which is the overdraft fee. I am so mad at this collection agency. I was told by my bank not to get a new card yet, as it can slow the dispute process, however after receiving my credit, I should immediately get a new card, because they now have my # and obviously will take the $ whenever they want.
Have you ever heard of Visa not issuing the credit? I guess that's my biggest fear, especially since I was so stupid to give them my # in the first place.
Oh, I swear, when it rains, it pours!
Thanks for letting me vent!

I spoke to someone with CCCS and she told me to overnight the payment with a $25 NSF Fee. Does this make sense? I don't see how that is going to solve my problem.

Pardon me, but what...?
I called back and spoke to someone else (higher up). She indicated that she would go ahead and cancel the debit for the 17th and set it up for the 5th of July - and If I get the $ back in the mean time, I can mail the payment and then cancel the debit on the 5th.
Whew! That makes me feel SOOOO much better now!
I'm still just steaming about them taking my money - unauthorized! People are suck liars!
(my poor SO is a Police officer and tells me never to trust people all the time!- I just never believed him until now)
Thanks for the support and advice

Sorry to hear that you had to go through this. However, what made you give the your card information?
good luck.

I know I know - it was very STUPID of me. They had called me at work -I'm out in the middle of everything - so anyone who walks by can hear my conversation - and were threatening to file a lawsuit if I didn't pay half of the balance. I told them that I couldn't afford that and they just kept pushing and pushing - I was so flustered I was about to cry!
I know - I shouldn't have and I have learned A HUGE lesson

I'm glad you learned your lesson. I could understand why you did it. I guess that's the tactic they use to get people to pay up.
Hang in there.

This might have already been mentioned, but if they are calling you at work I believe you do have the right to DEMAND they immediately stop that.
Aside from anything else...if you are in an open area and lots of people are around there is always the possibility someone could overhear you give them a number!! Coworkers might not do that, but if the public can come in that area....it just seems very risky.

Aly - I'm so sorry to hear this.
All my best,
