With the hectic summer beginning, I had been caught up in planning for family visits, trying to pressure wash my driveway that hadn't been washed in 12 years (so you can imagine what a chore it was--lots of black mildew), and enjoying a membership we purchased to a local theme park to allow for summer fun without constant costs, along with normal life stuff that needed doing. Well, today, I finally figured I'd sit down and sort out this huge basket I have of junk mail next to my bed. Well, along with the junk mail, I found my water bill....due on the 15th of this month...but today is the 16th! Ack! Immediately my mind raced to higher interest rates on all my cards, a blemish on my credit, etc. So I called them, fearing the worst. I was just so beside myself.
But lucky lucky, oh so lucky, me! They said that there is actually a three day grace period after the due date on the bill before they charge late fees or penalties!! So I grabbed my debit card (so it would just be coming out of my normal checking account), and paid it over the phone. Over and done with, with no problems for me or my credit.
Whew! That was a close one! Guess I need to stay on top of these things more. :-D

Glad in turn out good.

I'm glad you found the bill. It is really awful that credit card companies can/do use a late payment on anything as an excuse to up your interest rate.

Ah, boy, I can't tell you how many times I've realized with a panic that something was due but not being sure of the exact date, not being able to find the bill...argh.
I did that once!
I got confused on the due date apparently....I was all set to call in the electric/water bill on the day I *thought* it was due, looked at the due date and it was due the day before.
