First of all I want to thank you guys b/c I sure felt ALONE with being neg in the checking accnt. My mom bailed us out THANK GOD. We're still not touching the check book until I'm sure that nothing else is going to hit it. And then I'll be using it to write out bills at first & using cash every place else. It was a huge wake up call and though I'm still embarrassed about it I'm sure in time I'll get over it.
If you guys don't mind I'd like to hang out a bit. That way not only am I responsible to my family about money but to you guys too. Plus I love the snowflake idea. I told my mom about it & she thought that it was great. We have 5 main debts that need to be paid off. 2 will happen in the next 2 years.
~Credit Card, we have 1 and that's it. It's got a balance of 1100.00 on it.
~Mini Van, I think there's about 6K left on that
~My mom, about 15K total to her (that's built up over 4 years)
~Dh's Student Loan, 20K on it
~Our house, 75K left on it.
My mom's idea has always been then when you go shopping and put something in the cart you have to ask yourself is it a 'want' or a 'need'. I quit using that analogy a few months back & I think that that has contributed to this big mess. Of course adding in 600+ bucks that should've been subtracted REALLY didn't help!
Also does anyone here use Microsoft Money or any other Money programs & if so does it help? I'm looking mainly for something that will help me keep track of my check book (basically have a few checks & balances in place) & something where I can put my debts & see how I'm doing as far as paying them off.
So I hope you guys don't mind me sticking around. Thanks & Hugs~Its5oclocksomewhere

Please do hang around! I love your screen name, by the way.
I use Microsoft Money. I don't know that it's the best thing out there, but it sure helps. Other people love Quicken, but Money is what I have and so it's what I use. Many banks allow you to download your statements online and it will automatically balance your account for you, which is *very* convenient.
Your debt looks a lot like ours--we have more on our credit card by a few grand, but we also owe the bulk of our unsecured debt to family (my dad), and then we also have one vehicle loan and a mortgage. No student loans, but only because we were lucky and Dad paid for my college and dh had a full scholarship (he paid room and board, but we paid that off a couple years ago). I had an assistantship that mostly paid for graduate school (and the rest went on ccs--dumb, I know).
Thanks for joining us.
Heather
Aren't Moms the best?? I think so.
Anyway, glad to hear you learned your lesson. Also glad to know that you will be sticking around. We could encourage each other. We have a great group of people here.
