So, I've been paying down AMEX...bit by bit...good interest rate, no lates, no misses.
And the up and collapse by limit by nearly everything I've paid off.
How is this helping me consolidate debt?
So, I call them and told them that is they do this again, I quit paying. That's $7000+ to them.
Bastards.

Could you transfer your AMEX balance onto another credit card?
I know it seems discouraging. Hang in there.
MYM
If I'm reading this right, AMEX reduced your credit limit with them equal to the amount of debt you had paid off -- basically rotten of them, and they probably won't tell you why. I wouldn't close the card -- the interest rate you have is good, and it probably only is good for the balance you currently have with them right? I mean, if you were to charge anything else (as if, since they have now reduced your credit limit) the new charges would have been at a higher rate anyway.
So -- evil as they are, they are removing the temptation to charge and end up with a higher interest rate on the new charges. They may have done you a favor/
Just a thought. Anyway, they would probably be delighted if you didn't pay so they could jack up the interest rate on what you are currently paying on. Don't give them the satisfaction. Just keep paying and never using them again.
Good luck!
