Bouncing a check
| Wed, 06-22-2005 - 5:22am |
Good Morning, It is 5:00 am and I don't even know if I slept lastnight because I am so stressed.
My husband does the bills because he is so much better then me at them but I wrote out our childrens daycare check from our 2nd checking account that has my name on it but he barely keep any money in it. So needless to say that there isn't $534.00 in it for last weeks childcare, he asked me to let them know that he'd give them a check during the week, but I felt funny so here "I am" about to bounce a check to daycare. I am so stressed and don't know why I do this to myself.
Last week I didn't bounce anything but I did give a check by phone to pay off a credit card I had but I took the money out of checking account #1, which is strictly in only my husbands name. I obviously never told him or put it in his registry but luckily he always has extra so I was alright. His bank statement will come eventually or he will go to the bank and get a print out of withdrawls.
I am so stressed and I want to be back on our feet, and in our own home again but it just feels like it is going to be forever before that happens because I have major spending issues....
Thanks for listening and I hope that everyone has a Great Day Today!!
Talk to you soon!!

In our house the checkbook only stays balanced & funded when there is only one person controlling /using it.
If your husband is that person, in the future I would just leave him little love notes for what you need checks written out for & when they are due.
This is what we do in our house and it works pretty well.

I agree w/Shannon. There should be only one person balancing and writing out checks. My husband and I have a joint checking account. However, I am the one that pays the bills. His paycheck is direct deposited into this account. He always let's me know when and how much money he takes out.
It's none of my business. You don't have to answer. However, why is the checking account only in his name?
Good luck to you.
P.S. Let him know about the check you wrote out to the daycare. Perhaps he can deposit money from his checking account to the joint account. Or can you call the daycare and let them know the mix up and that you will mail them another check?
Just a thought.

I like the idea to call the daycare. You can just sort of blush and say, "oops," and explain that there was some confusion with the checking account, and could they kindly wait a couple days to deposit it. Everyone makes mistakes with their accounts from time to time, so they should be understanding about it.
Good luck,
Heather
As far as not being on one of checking accounts and I am not sure it this is true everywhere but here on Long Island you can't open a a checking account without good credit and that I don't have, but I am on our saving account at that bank. Our other banking account we have had together for 6 yrs. but since it is a credit union there aren't to many location and the nearest one to us in 20 min. away. So, it really isn't convienent for everyday banking but we can't give it up.
I really appreciate your input, posting a reply and you are completly right about having only one person doing the banking especially since he is so much better at it.
I am going to give it my best to ignore the money but I have such a hard, just because I love to spend money on myself highlights, man./ped.,clothes, ect..., the kids and Anthony I can't help it but I am going to try and that is why I am here.
Hope to here from you again, Thank you so much.
