Done with First Usa/Chase ...

on my terms! I was so excited to call First USA (owned by Chase) today and tell them that I wanted to close the account!

I borrowed nearly $5,000 last month, and it was supposed to be at 0% through March 2006. I called them last week because I didn't remember if it was going to expire in early or late March 2006. The first rep. said it would expire in August 2005. I told her that was wrong. She put in a request to a department that would look over all the notes on the account, and they would send me a letter in a few weeks. That made me mad, so I called back later. The second rep. told me that she could clearly see that it was going to expire at end of March 2006. Then a few days ago I got a letter from First USA/Chase stating that the offer would expire in August 2005. I called again and the third rep. told me that, yes, it was going to expire in August 2005. I was so mad! Of course she couldn't see any notes, wasn't interested in looking ... So, I went online and paid it off! I had the money in checking and was planning on paying most of a Discover bill, but this was more important.

Today when I saw that the payment had cleared and my balance was $0, I called to cancel it. I told them that I have excellent credit (true), receive tons of credit card offers, and can bascically have any credit card I want. I also added that I'm not going to let a credit card company kick me around! (It wasn't always this way, that's for sure).

I ended the conversation by telling them that I don't want any mailings or phone calls from them in the future!

It felt so good!

Good for you! It's always a good feeling to just be able to pay the bill off rather than have to take the terms they give you!

You may want to wait a month or so then doublecheck that the card is really really closed, though. Maybe you can send the nice people a certified letter instructing them to close the account, being very clear on the fact that you want nothing further to do with them.

Congratulations!
