Update on petsitting :)

Hi, everyone. Just an update: After careful consideration, I have decided to use a pet-sitting service. Set up appt this week for them to meet the cats, go over prices and services. The vet is close by, if needed. MUCH cheaper, and Danni (et al), I think you are right--they will be happier in own environment, as the cats get nervous. I can see it now---if we had intermittent visits from friends, with wacky schedules, it would be an inconvenience, etc. And, the cats get into things---lizards (they bring them in), toilet paper (everywhere), climbing, etc. Plus, the sitter can clean the boxes, feed fish, etc.
What a relief! I appreciated all of your suggestions. Whiz.

HI--I researched this for a week. I did what everyone suggested---checked out pet stores, pet magazines, asked around at work, vet, etc. Pet Sitters Association. Got lots of e-mails. E-mail recommendation from local chapter on one person cinched it for me. Web blog--credentialed, certified, bonded, licensed, insurance. In my area. Reasonable. Can visit one-two times/day if needed, or overnite. Some worked as vet techs, others with various volunteer relief agencies. Meeting this week. Will save about $300 or so.DH is happy. One friend used something similar and said it was good. Whiz.

Did the pet sitters association have a website or something? Maybe they have a local chapter in my area, and I might use them when I go out of town next time.

Glad you went that route. Animals are much better in their environment.

Hi, MYM---I agree with you and Danni---the animals probably wouldnt eat much at vets, and they'd be happy with their "routine".

Hi---yes, the Pet Sitters Association does have local chapters, etc. Go to web, type in pet sitters, see what you get. I got all kinds of responses. Most people who were affiliated with the pet sitting group had attended classes, certifications, etc, and had photos of satisfied "customers" (cats, dogs, lizards, etc.)and letters of recommendation. It just might be what you are looking for. You can always "try them out" for a weekend gig. WHiz.
