What do you consider an Emergency?

Hello all, borrowed this from another board.
What do you consider an emergency that allows you to dip into your emergency fund?
So far I honestly am having difficulty thinking of anything. If my car breaks I will just drive another one that we own. My hubby (mechanic) is mr fix it, so we never pay someone to do anything in our house. He exchanges services with a HVAC & plumber when he needs a little guidance. The appliances in our house are fairly new with the exception of the refridgerator, but we could use the one in the basement if push came to shove. We have health/dental insurance which I alredy budget for copays & prescriptions.
What am I missing?

I am so sorry that to hear about your son. I can't imagine life without my daughter.

Well, as luck would have it, I'm actually having one of those moments, today, that are unexpected and expensive. LOL! I drove 5 miles from my house to mail something, and then my car started chugging on my way home and felt like it was going to die on me. So I pulled into a parking space at a bank. I let it sit for awhile, and it started to sound alright, so I backed out of the parking space, and it started to chug again, so I quickly pulled into another parking space at the same bank. So there we were....stuck. Called Dh and he left his office 45 minutes away, and I called a Wrecker truck to come and take my car to the dealership. It's a 10 year old car, but it had been driving great until today. We just took my son's booster seat out of the car and walked to a nearby Wendy's to wait for my Dh to rescue us. LOL! :-D Dh came before the wrecker could arrive, and he thought that maybe my gas gauge was stuck (since it was on 3/4 of a tank, and that it probably just ran out of gas and I didn't know it). We went for gas and put it into the car, and it still didn't start. So the wrecker had to take it.
Now, the car is probably only worth about $1000 total, so if the car repairs cost more than that, we're just going to have to buy a new car. An expense we hadn't planned on, but unfortunately, it hit us out of the blue. With a hubby who works 45 minutes away, and a son who trains in taekwondo 5 days a week, we both need cars. There's no two ways about it. So this is a neccessary, although unplanned and unexpected, expense.
It will likely take our entire emergency fund as a downpayment, and I doubt we'll get anything for the old car if they can't manage to get it running, but of course, I'll be hoping for the same "loyal customer" discount we received last time we bought a car at the same dealership ($500). Not to mention we'll have another car payment to take on. :-)
Life happens sometimes. LOL!! :-D
