Should have came here first!!

I went to the SAHM/WOHM debate board to ask about my finances and that was a BIG mistake. Most of those women are nasty, know-it-alls who just looking for someone to put down. Here is my story:
My dh and I have gotten ourselves into over $6000 debt with our line of credit for overdrawing our checking account. Yes, it was stupid but it just escalated. I have come to terms with this and figured out a way to pay it off AND get us back on track (cutting out one of my dd's activities, having my dh understand he can't just take $20 here and $20 there whenever he feels like it, etc.)I know it will be hard but we are going to try our best. We do have cc debt but I only use one card and put all my clothes and medical bills on it and pay over the minimum every month. They were telling me I am wrong because I have a lease and my dh has a car loan. They INSISTED I needed to get rid of my car, my cable and cellphone. I have different ideas of how to save the money and they just insisted I wasn't listening.
I hope I have found a better board to go to. One that other people are in the same boat as me and we are all here to help one another, not berate them like they are a child.

"Personally, I don't follow one debt guru like Dave Ramsey or Suze Orman."

Hey whatever works for you is the best! After all, Dave Ramsey or Suze Orman do not live with your family so in a sense you know best (and just need to stick to it). I will probbly get stoned to death here, but I DO NOT HAVE A BUDGET. Somehow, it works for me. I get paid once a month, retirement savings are taken out before I "see" the money, I immediately write checks for mortgage, HOA fees, utilities, phone, CC (which I do not carry a balance), investment accounts, etc. Whatever is left is what I get to spend until the next month.

Thanks! The debate boards are pretty brutal. This board has such NICE women who understand and are looking to HELP not TELL you what to do.

EXACTLY. You have to go with what fits in your life as long as you know you are in control of your bills. We have to get back in control of our bills NOW. If I have to save on going out places and shopping and need to stay home, I need my computer and my TV. I'm sorry if some people can do without TV, but we can't. We don't pay for HBO, SHO, etc. but get the basic cable service, which is alot in our area. Some people have suggested I stopped using makeup on the other board. I am sorry, but I don't want to scare the public-lol!! Maybe if I was a SAHM and was home alot, I could do that but I work fulltime and I am out and about and like to look decent. There are just some many things some people think are important and unimportant but you need to do what is best for YOU. I have cut out one of my dd's activities so we can save the $35/month for other things. I have put money towards my LOC so that can be paid off. It won't happen overnight, but week by week, we can get closer to our goals, paid off LOC, more money towards the CC, maybe, just maybe someday my new kitchen??!!
Thanks for listening.

I don't spend that much $$$ on make-up anyway, as it lasts me a long time and I just buy the stuff you can get at the drug-store, so I don't really see how that would save money?!

Thanks. I will also try out that message board. I also buy "cheap" makeup except for my face powder. I buy Clinique Face Powder because I do not have a perfect complexion and I have always been embarassed and this makes me feel more confident knowing my skin looks better. I HAVE tried to buy cheaper powders but they never looked good and they weren't cheaper anymore either! I buy Maybelliene mascara, Wet and Wild eyeliner and the lip gloss I am using now, my girlfriend at work gave to me as she bought an extra one on sale $1.99 and it is Wet and Wild. I really don't spend too much money and now with the summer, I am tanner and use less face powder.

I'm the same person on the debate boards too, but there the 'purpose' of the board is different.

Thanks! They are STILL coming at me even though I have "left" them about a week ago!! I am NOT going to keep egging them on because that is what they want. I have found a great group here who understands where I am coming from and won't turn all of my answers around and find fault in me.
