... it starts to look somewhat absurd, this seems to be the week of 'No, sorry'-replies regarding jobs ;-)

I got a phone call from university a day before yesterday. I had - maybe sillily so - been counting on getting a second parttime job from october on, in a project related to my PhD-thesis. I wrote most of the papers myself, of the project descriptions and timetables and all that.

Well, nothing. "Come back in January" was the answer after long weeks of agonizing over propositions and applications, rewriting them again and again after another interesting chat with this or that official... and now: Nothing.

Aside from the fact that we really could use the money, I feel simply cheated. And angry. Yes, of course I will try to get the money and the project going from next year on.

Maybe I should view this from the bright side: I had been somewhat afraid of working up to fifty hours a week :-) Now I definitely have enough time to work on my thesis as fast or slow as I want to.

Sorry to hear that-it can be frustrating when you put so much work into a project. What are you getting the Ph.D. in? I'm trying to finish mine up. So tired of paying money to the university every semester.

Remember that every no you get you are one step closer to a yes :)

Hi Taleyna,

I am working on entrepreneurial networks, especially women forming up networks to succeed - for a PhD in sociology. Gladly enough tuition fees are low here.

What's your field?

Communication studies-I'm writing on religion online and how congregations are using websites to recruit and retain members. It's not too bad now-DH & I went to school together and had graduate assistantships. We left after finishing coursework but not the dissertations. So, we've been paying 1,000 a semester up until last Spring when DH finished up. Now, it's 500 a semester but I'm hoping this will be it!
