Do you spend more or less when you......

pay by cash only? I am trying to figure this out for myself, anyhow. on the one hand, when I shop and pay with cash only, I really watch what gets thrown in the cart, etc, because I don't want to be embarrassed when I go to checkout :) On the other hand, carrying cash means I am more likely to stop at McDonalds when i am in a rush or trying to pacify my kids. I am not sure if I save one way more than the other, or if it evens out in the end. Anyhow, last week was one of the first weeks this summer that I packed my lunch every day...well, I didn't work half the summer LOL!, but I guess in the past month or so. I think maybe I should leave the cash home unless I have an actual plan in place for it. Else it tends to evaporate. LOL!! Maybe it is just me.....Heather

I agree-I don't do well with cash on hand. I track all my spending so I don't feel like I'm tempted to spend more when I use a debit or credit card but I know studies show that people do so maybe I'm fooling myself!

I tend to spend more when I have cash. When I use my debit card, I spend less because I am watching those balances go down every time I use it. However, with cash it is already deducted from the check register so it doesn't "register" with me how much I am spending.

Great question.
