Thanks for posting this link Gidget. This post is piggybacking off of Whiz's post.

So I put in Ca, and then LA. Well they list the top 15 or so cheap stations and then the top 15 most expensive stations. In the cheapest they are all very far away (closest one to me is about 20 miles). In the most expensive section my area has 5 of them! It is so rediculous that prices fluctuate so much. 20 miles away is 20 miles further the gas trucks have to go to deliver the gas yet it is cheaper. I know it is supply and demand.

DH works 50 miles each way. There is noone else around here that he could carpool with, there is no public transporation what so ever. We are spending a fortune on gas each month about $250 just for his car. I do have a SUV (Highlander) it gets decent gas milage for a SUV. I have started to really think about my errands etc. There just doesn't seem to be room in the budget for all the rising prices. Even McDonalds has raised their prices. A Quarter Pounder combo is $5.19 here. For $5 I get almost but a pack of frozen burgers.

How is everyone adapting to the raising prices of everything?

We pretty much have cut our food/supplies budget to accomodate gas. I get laundry detergent, etc. at Sam's for a fraction of what I used to pay. I hit the flea market every weekend for food and medications (there are stands that buy medications and cereals, mac anc cheese, soups, etc. from drug stores and resell them) where everything is a dollar, including the usually $4.00 cereal! That saves us a fortune. I hit Mexico for prescription meds and dental care for husband. The kids I take to the community health center for $20. Everything helps!
But all of this has made me even more determined to become credit card debt free and not be enslaved to rises in prices, interest rates, minimum payments, etc.

I am trying to adapt to the rising prices by being more aware of the prices at the grocery store. I will compare prices like crazy and even price things down to the ounce to determine which is a better bargin. I walk DD to school and DH bikes to work. I only put $25 worth of gas in his Suburban and $10 to $15 worth of gas in my minivan at a time so I am more aware of the amount of driving I do.

I also drive about a mile or two out of my way to go to the cheap gas station. I live on the Kansas/Missouri border and because gas taxes are cheaper in Missouri than Kansas, it is typically 10 cents a gallon cheaper in Missouri, so I get gas in Missouri. It is really funny. There is one gas station less than a mile into Missouri and everytime I drive by it all of the cars have Kansas plates. I have never seen a Missouri plate at this gas station.

Anyone else have any input?

LOL I also drive a bit out of the way to get gas. I live on the GA/SC border and gas is cheaper in SC, so that is where we go. There is a super walmart there too and that is the closest super walmart so that is where I go to grocery shop too. (When I'm not just getting specials at other stores) But now I've started pricematching instead as well. We go get gas, go grocery shoppping for the month and come home. I've been staying home alot more and we've been eating at home alot more too. Every little bit helps.

I compare prices like crazy too. I'll still go to more than one grocery store if I can get something super cheap or free after coupons. Our stores here will double coupons .55 and under so I can get really good deals. Walmart won't cut it at that point.

Hi, Kelly. When we were back in Ohio for vac, the gas prices fluctuated from day to day. Ridiculous. You had to drive about 10 miles outside your destination (away from freeway on and off ramps, for example) to get it cheaper. Fortunately for me, there is a small independent grocery store literally down the street. Since the Petco closed, I do have to travel about 10 miles for the next nearest store. Sooo-I am shopping at Target, etc. and sticking close to home for errands. I have a small foreign car, which gets great mileage, but DH has the gas hog Ford Explorer. I do appreciate the website on gas prices. It is impacting everything, from pizza, to flowers, to surcharges on deliveries. WHiz.
