I don't know where you live, but are you anywhere near a community health center? The one near us has a dental clinic and for $20 a visit all treatment is included. I just had about $400 of work done on my son for the $20 visit fee. Most community health centers offer dental care as well as medical services. And the braces, can they wait at all? They are so expensive nowadays. As for my kids, if they need them, we will be heading south of the border!

Big hugs are going your way. I don't have any words of wisdom, so I will just send hugs and positive thoughts.

If you live anywhere near a university with a dental school, that might be an option for future dental care at more reasonable cost. Isn't it amazing what dental work costs now?

Sending positive energy your way.

HUGS! HUGS!

I just had a big dental thing happen, and it is costing me an arm and a leg, too....I can't seem to avoid big, expensive surprises this year!

BREATHE, BREATHE, breathe again!!! You'll be okay....life is happening. Don't give up, just keep going.

Think of how beautiful your daughter's smile will be, and that this is worth it.

Best wishes, Littlesbigs

Becky,
I just want to send you a cyber hug. I know the feeling. Hang it there, though. You've worked so hard to keep you head above water.

Hi, Becky. Ah, medical and dental bills. In agreeing with what others say---i.e., university or dental school dentists or clinics, what about a dentist who will give family discounts. The dentist I go to sometimes gives free toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, etc., and a discount if we go at unconventional hours. At least you are taking care of the problem now before further problems surface. Better to do it now than face root canals, capping, etc. My medical bills are now fast approaching national debt status. Whiz.

Yeah thats what my parents said too. Stopped wearing the retainer about a year later, my bottom teeth went right back to where they were.

Hi,

Just wanted to say i feel your pain, we have $2000 worth of medical bills for some procedures my dd needed this year, and then several others medical bills , in fact i have payments to pay for our copay for her birth that i still haven't finished paying for and she just turned one! It was an expensive year medically for us.
Also, i needed braces and my parents didn't get them for me, and i have always hated my teeth, they did always take me to the dentist every six months so my teeth are healthy and i am thankful for that,,,, just wish they would have spared the extra expense for braces, and my husband has really bad teeth and has not gone to the dentist at all, and i dont even think his parents ever took him when he was little, not sure what we are going to do about that or how i will get him to go... but i know for me the one thing i am sure of is that i will spare no expense to make sure my kids have gorgeous teeth (and i just finished paying the 140 it cost me just for ds's cleaning and xrays and flouride) , you are doing the right thing,

Becky, are the kids still on medicaid? Brandon's best friends girlfriend (still with me? :) Works for a pediatric dental office only for children with Medicaid. I don't know if they do braces but I would seriously see what is covered and what isn't... Also is there a dental school near you? We have a dental school and there is a bit of a wait but the prices are much reduced and I have friends that swear they get better care there because the student grade depends on it! :) Maybe you could call the dentists office and see what other options are available in your area. I'm pretty sure that you have already done that because you are a smart woman. You give me strength everytime you post-- you have done a great job and you continue to do a great job doing what you need to do for your family!

let me tell you, as the child of parents who could not afford proper dental care, YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING! your children may not understand what a financial strain it is, but they will appreciate it one day. My parents could never afford braces, or anything besides an occasional cleaning, and because of that, i was (and still am) extremely self conscious of my teeth. This had a serious affect on my self esteem.. really. I know it's tough now, but it is really worth it. I am sending you hugs and well wishes. i hope things get better soon.
