Dave Ramsey on Oprah, not so good...

I finally found time to watch my Oprah tape of her guest Dave Ramsey from Tuesday...it wasn't very good. Did anyone else watch it? What did you think. He didn't even get into the steps he preaches to get out of debt. They had a couple pregnant with twins & the wife surprised her DH by telling him they were in $160,000 of debt & he was unaware...he was in shock. They also had a rich family & they spoil their teenage kids with new cars, credit cards etc...supposedly they wanted to learn how to teach their kids to be responsible with $. But you could tell they really weren't going to bother with trying...they kept saying but they are such GOOD kids. Well part of our responsibility as parents is getting our children ready to be on their own & or have families of their own...duh!

Well, I was just wondering if anyone else caught it...totally disappointed in Oprah & Ramsey...

I caught it and was disappointed. He didn't give the couple with twins the steps on the air, he only said your going to eat rice and beans and beans and rice.

The couple with the teenagers killed me. The girl saying, yeah my parents bought me a car and I wrecked so here's the replacement and the son who is 18 expecting his parents to provide his friends with dinners out. What the ****? And the parents--they're such good kids. I would make a comment about that but the TOS for ivillage won't allow me, ROFL!

The only good thing he did do was to tell the last couple NOT to get married until they straightened out things finacially.

Oh well, I guess he wants people to buy his books and go to his FPU, that way they can learn a lot more than just a one hour tv show.

I thought Dave seemed nervous.

All my best,

I was surprised that she disagreed with him like that-I haven't watched in a while but that doesn't seem typical and I have to disagree with her. We do not know enough about the situation to know-if he could never take the time to sit and discuss bills, if he handed everything over with a "that's your job" attitude, if he spends without even checking to see if the budget can handle it then I think the husband does owe her an apology.

I saw it too and i felt the same dissapointment, I couldn't believe they didn't get into how to get out of the debt... all the said about the first couple with the twins on the way was that he will go into it with them after the show and work with them privately. Well what about the rest of us!!! I was surprised, it just seemed like a really shallow show with no depth to it. Oh well, i have his book so i don't need oprah! Besides, i doubt he really had the say in what they aired and how in depth they got, i bet he's dissapointed too!

Well, I have been kicking myself for not watching it....Oprah is on late-night here, so if I stay up (like I am now. :) ), I can catch her...so I had planned to watch Ramsey...then never turned the TV on on Tuesday.

Anywho...So glad to hear I didnt miss much!! :) I have read Total Money Makeover, and I think I'll just stick with that for now, then! :D

We watched it too, and had the same reaction. I think that there were too many different people-it would have been better if there was one or two, then some time could have been spent getting into the steps.

I wanted to throw something through the TV when Oprah took after Dave on the whole, "He doesn't owe her an apology" thing. Cripes-that's one of Dave's basic tenets: When the minister pronounces you man and wife, all the debt becomes OURS, not yours and mine. Oy. It was then that I remember thinking, "Well, this is not going to go well." I also couldn't believe it when she said something about him having a radio show and doing OK. Hellloooo? LOL.

I didn't get to see the family with the kids, and I don't think I want to. It had my DH frothing at the mouth, and that's something. I wish that there would have been more time devoted to his basic steps, and what it is he is about. I don't think any of those families were 'typical' in that each of them had a nice high income (or as he says, 'a big shovel'). Probably most of America figured, 'Oh, my debt isn't that high, and besides, what're they whining about?' and won't follow up on it.

Glad I already drank the kool--aid...
