Free Funtime Activities?

Now that the weather is starting to cool off in some areas and Fall is upon us, it's the perfect time to get outdoors or maybe stay indoors and have some 'free' or 'low cost' fun. Anyone want to start a list to give and/or get ideas to enjoy Fall without spending any money? These can be ideas for cheap/inexpensive date ideas, ideas for going out with friends, out with the girls, spending time with family, enjoying the kids, etc.

I'll start with some that I've thought of:

Flying a kite (can be bought for $1 most places or you could try making one!)

Taking kids to the playground

Visiting a pumpkin patch (can get some great Fall pictures this way! :-D)

Taking an evening walk after dinner

Taking a drive (or walk) to look at leaves changing

Sitting outside to blow bubbles (my son loves doing this)

Anyone else have some ideas? Please share :-D

Hi Pat and everyone else,

depending on the age of the kids involved, I have a few ideas to add, too:

- collect acorns and chestnuts, and build little people to play with: Take matches (without the flammable head) for armas and legs, chestnuts for body, acorns (with out without the little hat) as heads. You can make animals, too - we used to make whole farms of 'fall-people' (that's what my sisters and I used to call them)

- collect fallen leaves of different colors and decorate the house according to season

- fall is a time when the sky is exceptionally clear often - perfect for watching stars at night or migrating birds flying south...

- buy cheap fallen apples, pears, plums etc. and cook jelly, jam, marmalade, extract the juice from them and store it till the long dark and cold days come. I always loved that part of fall - but it means a lot of work, and a rather sticky kitchen afterwards, I warn you :-)

- if you have a garden: Now is the time to plant tulip bulbs and crocus. Let the kids arrange them into ornaments, and have something wonderful tell you when spring is coming, even before all the snow has melted.

- fall is a great time for a campfire and a night outside with tents and sleepingbags.

Greetings, Jordis

Mmmmm

Make some hot mulled cider and enjoy it on the front porch

Take the dog for extra long walks (bring extra baggies - sometimes they surprise you)

"Fall Clean" the house - I do most of my spring cleaning this time of year - oh, wait you said fun...

Collect pretty leaves and pres them into wax paper - I used to do this every year

All my best,
Danni
