Boy, am I really feeling silly today. Back in July we requested DH's 401k to be "rolled over" to a new IRA. Well after 8 weeks, DH finally called the company he left to ask about the check. They informed him that it was returned to them and they've been "waiting" for us to contact them. Um...DUH??? He was an employee there for 2+ yrs, we have NOT moved nor changed or phone numbers and they were waiting on HIM?????
Anyways, he requested a new check and they told him it would take 1-2 weeks. DH was hoping it would come in "early" so we could use it for bills since he has been laid off for 2 months. I told him, we should just continue with the rollover because of the penalties and income tax. So when the check came on Thursday last week, I put it in a "safe" place. So I thought. I saw my investment rep on Wednesday and asked him if he got the check. (I thought I had sent it to him and just couldn't find my copy). He checked, NOPE, no check. He called his Asst., again, NO check. So I am starting to panic. I look through every book, drawer, and pile of paper not to mention my car, purse, and business bag. NO CHECK. So I can't find over $1066. It's driving me crazy. To make a long story short....LOW and BEHOLD I found it in ...... the TRASH. YIKES. Friday is trash day....I am so thankful God answered my prayers and I was able to find the missing money before it went to the landfill. I can only imagine DH's response when I tell him about my *safe* place.
Life happens..Laugh and Live LONG!!!

oh my gosh, this is awful, but i can't even count how many times i have done that. I am a clean-aholic and I despise clutter. I am always "de-cluttering" and accidently throwing things out. Once, I threw out a stack of birthday cards i got at party that were filled with money. (dh went to the dumpster for those.... so embarrasing, we were in an apartment then and everyone could see him digging through there..) I have thrown out checks at work by accident. (thank goodness i have to balance at the end of the day or i would have never known!).
i have thrown out tons of other things too, it's a terrible habit. Dh always gets nervous when i say i want to "clean out this closet/drawer/file cabinet".
