I have had it with Direct Merchant's bank. It is one of the debts that I can't pay fast enough. They called me a few months ago when I was 5 days late with a payment and got demanding, even going so far as to double the amount due and tell me that I was 30 days late when in fact I was not. The latest is that my payment was due on Friday, which I paid. My phone rang four times yesterday with a Florida #, according to the Caller ID. Each time I answered the phone, the caller hung up. Last night, call #3 came in during the baseball game, about 8:30 pm Pacific time. I answered on the third ring, they hung up. It rang AGAIN almost immediately, and this time there was a live person on the phone, telling me that my payment was late, I was assessed a late fee, and that the late fee put me over my limit! I said that I had done the payment online, told him for how much, and he said that maybe I should have done it over the phone with them instead. I said, "But you charge $8.95 for that 'convenience', and $12.95 to do that on the website." His response? "It's cheaper than a $39 late fee". I was appalled. I then pointed out that they called me four times during the day, and I answered the phone each time, but was hung up on each time.
Long story short, I found a GREAT webiste for all of us that complain about the tactics used by cc companies, called Consumeraffairs.com . They have complaints on each cc company, debt collection co's, and DM programs. I wish I had found this site sooner! Its a great place to lodge a complaint, warn other consumers, read testimonials from other consumers, and get information on what to do if companies are violating laws. Of course, all companies will have complaints, but the ones that pertain to me are startling! I cannot wait to be free of these sham companies!
Hope this helps you all!
Kathy
