Hello everyone....
I have a question concerning Christmas gifts.

On my side of the family we only buy store-bought gifts for those under 18. We've been doing this since the 1980's. Adults get homemade granola, soap, hand knit hats etc... Always something small. My son is currently the only one under 18.
On my husband's side many live out of state and only those who appear in person get gifts. This year the one brother who lives in state just declared bankruptcy so his wife asked that we only buy for the kids. I already bought gifts for his daughter over the summer. 2 packages of Kelly outfits (Mervyn's clearance, $2), Pink pants (K-mart clearance $1) 2 Pink sweatshirts (k-mart clearance $1 each) total = $5.
I have a stockpile of stuff for my son bought at similar clearance situations. I'll probably just pull a few things down and wrap them. He's going to need fleece footie pajamas too, so maybe I'll buy them and wrap them as a gift.
Last year we went big and bought him a train table.
For my son's first Christmas 3 years ago I bought him one thing and it was free after rebate. It was a little tykes tool bench. He didn't know what Chirstmas was so what did he care?
As he gets older I expect it to get more expensive. But maybe by then we will be in a better situation as well.

We used to buy the fleece footie PJ's too, but my son kept taking them off, and when he got into potty training, he couldn't get them back on again. LOL! What worked for us, and saved us money, was to get him some thermal underwear (usually sold in a set with some cute patterns like sports, military prints, bugs, dogs, etc), and he wears those as his pajamas on cold winter nights. Then when he wants to go out in the snow, he's just got to jump up and throw clothes on top of the thermal underwear and out the door he goes. :-D

Thanks Pat,
I guessed that the zip-up jammies would be a problem, so I was going to get two-piece footed fleece pjs (sold at Land's End). However last night we did a trial run with two-piece footed pjs from last year. He was excited at first then declared "I don't like footies." So I think any type of warm pj's will do.
Thanks for the idea about thermals--I really like the idea of going right from jammies to outdoor play.

I don't know what we will do this year. Last year we were broke and only got DS 1 thing. I felt awful because Christmas has always been a big thing in my house. DH spent a lot more on my SS then on our son. This year the gift we want to get hom costs $100. If I get a job before then we will be spending more. I think I'm gonna try homemade gifts this year for my family.

This is a great idea! I have 3 boys and really don't want to over do it at Christmas this year. We never use our credit card for xmas shopping so that isn't a concern but being able to fit it into our budget will really help. Thanks for the tip.
