gas & oil - a little OT

It is funny that Littlebigs Thursday night update touched on price of gas & oil. I was just venting with my DH last night how unfiar it was that the price of everything went up. To top it off Exon/Mobile announced over 9 BILLION in profits for the last quarter. I think people should contact their representatives to complain. I know companies need to make money, but this is ridiculous. How can anyone get ahead when their expenses keep going up? My bus that I take to work added a gasoline surcharge. Dominos started charging for delivery. I know I don't need pizza, but it seems like everything costs more because gas cost more.

I'm noticing the same thing here. There are higher prices at the grocery stores, and every now and then, we order food items from Schwans (a little truck that comes to your house and sells frozen food out of the back--sort of like an ice cream truck for food :-D), and they left a notice on my door yesterday saying that they were going to charge an extra $1.00 per order due to gas prices.
When I do seasonal cleaning (Spring/Fall, etc), I usually call the American Kidney Fund to find out when their trucks will be in my area so they can pick up the items to sell or donate to families that need them....but last week, I called them, and they said my area was on their "gas saving" list, meaning they probably would only come here for pick-ups every few months. Wow...that was surprising. I'm only 20 or so miles from their sorting center. Since I knew I was coming that way anyway later in the week, I told the charity that I'd drop my items by while I'm out, rather than them coming here.
I try to run my errands on two days each week (Tuesday and Thursday). On one hand, it does make for a more relaxing home life when you know you're not going anywhere on the other days of the week and can tackle at-home projects. On the other hand, it drives my son nuts because he knows we'll be in the car going places for 3-4 hours every Tuesday and Thursday. LOL! We start at our furthest errand location and work our way back home. :-D
This Winter will be interesting, that's for sure....

I work for a dairy and we just started a new fuel surcharge to all our deliveries. Most of our customers were fine with it, since their other delivery companies were doing the same thing. It's a shame that prices are that high, and I know that this surcharge is simply being passed down to us, the consumer.
