Small Victories!

Well I never realised that such a small triumph would feel so good.
DH and I finally, for the first time in our 8 years together have a budget that works.
We figured out that we needed to actually take out on the first of the month all money needed for gas, groceries and lunches out. Then we would be able to pay all fixed expenses (bills) and not overdraw, and also not think we had more spending money than we really do.
Also, we gave ourselves each $20 per week for spending on coffee or lunch.
DH used to go to restaurant lunches, sometimes 3-4 times a week. These lunches were from $15-$20 each. Last week he took lunch from home 3 days and went to Taco Bell the other 2! I know this sounds small, but it shows me that we are actually for the first time really headed in the right direction.
Too bad it had to get this bad before we made real changes, but I am hopeful that we can pay all cards off within 5 years. I'm just hoping that none of our minimum payments go up to 4% very soon because we need at least 2 months before we'll be prepared to make that change.
Anyway, just wanted to share our small happy victory,
Alicia
