Personally, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. We won't be doing much, our family is out of state. But it is a day I like to just enjoy each others company. it means not having therapists over (which is basically an everyday thing at our house for our dd). It means baking a pie or two, and everybody is in on the cooking. It is a time of reflection, and relative calm. It is the least commercialized of holidays, i think. So I thoroughly enjoy it. how about you???

I agree. We celebrate Thanksgiving at home since our family, also, lives far away. We usually turn on the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and flip between that and the local Atlanta Thanksgiving Parade, and we cook at the same time. We have a clear view of the TV from our kitchen, so we can enjoy the floats and marching bands while we cook dinner. Not sure of the menu this year. Dh and Ds like turkey, but I've been on a doctor-supported vegan diet since the end of September (trying to lower my cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose levels, as well as my weight), so I was going to make a Vegan Shepard's Pie for myself. I think I might just get them a small turkey breast. We grew our own sweet potatoes this year, so I'm eager to see how they will taste. :-D

Just a simple holiday. :-D We usually take a walk after dinner together and just talk. :-D

We travel a total of approx 1500 miles the week of Thanksgiving. My family and I live in IN and all of my DH's family lives in NC. I keep on praying that the gas prices keep on going down, down, down.... Since we travel so far we really don't have to buy anything for Thanksgiving dinner, we just show up and I help out and we eat. We also stay with friends and family while we are down there that way we don't have a huge hotel bill.

I guess I'm the weird one-I could easily skip Thanksgiving. First, we usually go to DH's mom's house. She is schizophrenic (diagnosed) and lives in a small studio apartment so this trip is fraught with difficulties from where to eat (her kitchen just doesn't seem sanitary to me). She's a hoarder and there isn't a single uncleared space, food is stored in the refrigerator without being covered, etc. Then the question of where to stay, etc. Just difficult.

Then we have our big Thanksgiving dinner on the Sat. after actual Thanksgiving because that's when my step-BIL can get off. It's also difficult because some family members don't get along and so that's an issue plus my MIL always says it will be a 1 and then we usually start to eat around 1:30-2 so that doesn't work well with the kids and I would give them a snack and just not worry about it but my FIL is huge on the whole everyone remains seated until everyone is done eating and you will eat everything on your plate. Then afterwards, I will offer to help as usual and my MIL will say no, don't help I can get it etc. and only accept help from step-BIL and his wife which makes me feel terrible.

We're kind of on outs with them anyway and a part of me is hoping they don't invite us so we can just celebrate here.

Well hopefully this year Thanksgiving will be quiet affair with just my parents at their house. We usually have Thanksgiving with an Aunt and Uncle of mine but last year was so bad that I don't want to go back again. My Aunt and one of my cousins were feuding. We'll see.

Best case, me, my parents and my cats will be at their house eating some turkey and watching a movie or something.

Worst case, my parents and I will be at my Aunts house were I'll just try to eat and get out of there as quickly as possible.
