what do you put your thermastat at? Just wondering. I am trying to save every penny I can while we are gone. I don't want to give the electric and gas company some of my snowflakes. lol

Thanks for your input!

In the summer, we turn ours completely off and just let the house get hot. We arrange to come home in the early morning (so the a/c won't have to work as hard to cool the house), and it's a little stuffy, but not too bad. We just go inside, turn on the A/C, and then go out for breakfast, and then come home to a nice cool home.

In Winter, we set it to 60 if we have to travel. We saw a "This Old House" episode where they mentioned that keeping your thermostat below 55 in the winter could put your pipes at risk for freezing. So we never bring ours below 60. In fact, with the higher heating prices coming this winter, we've already been testing how low we can bring our thermostat and still be comfortable. So far, we've brought it down to 62, and with extra clothing (sweaters, socks or slippers, sweatsuits, etc), we've been very comfortable. I'd love to get it down to 60 before the heating prices go up. I hope it will save us some money on our bills this winter.
