Hi I posted for the first time here earlier and I read everyone's replies. Thanks so much, I don't feel so alone and as desparate as I did this morning. I talked to dh tonight about our situation and he was so very understanding. Didn't blame me for protecting him. He hugged me and said we need to be honest from now on and he's feeling good and I don't need to protect him. We have decided to re-fi especially we put in new floors and a patio (he was in a wheelchair and it was looking permanent) Thankfully he's made a miraculous recovery and no longer needs a wheelchair :o) Anyway, I will be looking into this further(re-fi), I got some stuff today but since I'm new to all this finance stuff it's going to be slow(he always took care of the bills and finances)So I'm learning. I appreciate all your support and I am hoping to learn a few things. We are exactly 1 paychecck behind on all our bills. I will contact our creditors tomorrow and make arrangements for getting our finance charges lowered or some sort of arrangements. Have a great night!

Good Luck with your refi. The best advice I can give you is to ask as many questions as you need to. That's what the loan companies are there for....have them answer your questions and then go ask those same questions of another company and see what their answers are. Compare companies.
We refied in early October, and I handled it myself. All my Dh had to do was take a day off of work to be home when the lawyer came to sign the paperwork. I refied through Chase Home Finance, and my loan agent was absolutely wonderful. There was a two week period where I called him several times a day, and then he'd call me back in the afternoons (he was in a different time zone) and patiently answer all of my questions. He even offered humor at times when he knew I was getting worried or stressed. He actually became a "friend" through the process. I wrote to his supervisor once it was all finished to let him know just how wonderful an employee he has.
I didn't know anything about refinancing when I started the process, but through lots and lots of phone calls, and lots of notes taken during those phonecalls, I really learned a lot. :-D

Goodluck on moving forward, putting a plan in place & working with your DH is an excellent place to start. We have been working on being debt free except the house, we have 25 months to go. My DH just sold his beloved 52 Willys jeep for $9500 & we threw it all at our debt...he is on board, but generally I do all the finances at our house. I think he appreciates being involved & its great that we are working towards the same goal.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
