Hi everyone! I just have a general question...no answers are needed if it's too personal.

What is everyone's monthly "outgoing" number? I'm including everything in mine, all debt and other expenses. I don't even own my own home yet!

Right now, mine is about $1900.

Right now we range from 2500 - 3000. However, that does not include the 3 credit cards that I am currently snowflaking on and it now includes the credit cards that are paid off and if I use them then I pay them like a monthly bill.

I know sounds strange, but it seems to work for me.

My monthly total ($3544 for house, debts, and utilites, then more for gas, groceries, and feed for the horses/livestock) is taken from Microsoft Money, which provides me with a monthly report.

That's so neat that we have almost the same mortgage payment! LOL! :-D Actually, ours was 1287 until October 5th when we refinanced our first and merged our 2nd mortgage in with it. That's what gave us the new 1456 payment. LOL! :-D

Our monthly expenses:

Mortgage: $679
Car: $260
Insurance: $260 (yes, that's monthly. . . we're both under 25, and I've checked around)
Utilities: $75 (which seems high, but it's true - I cloth diaper, so I do a lot of laundry)
Avista: $100 (heat, electric - it's already snowing here, so heat is expensive)
Debts: $550 (this is paying a lot of extra to each)
Medications: $50 ($40 is monthly, and the extra $10 is for OTC medications, rarely used)
Doctor Visits $10 ($15/visit, but less than monthly)
Food: $250
Household Goods: $75 (that's really generous)
Home maintenance: $25 (needs very little)

Total: $2334, without fun money, which we don't allow much

for health, insurance is taken from DH's check before taxes, so I don't count it as income or expense, but it's $135/month

Well, let's see...

rent $675
gas/electric $250
car (s) $470
insurance (auto, renters, life) $195/mo
cable $18
cell phone $35
phone/internet $45
student loans $170
credit cards $750
therapy supplies $60

Hmm..add that all together and it comes to $2668. No wonder it seems like we never have any money LOL!! Only eight more months of this!! Then we move and will have time to regroup, and hopefully, make more progress.

I've read all the messages, and am amazed with the variety of expenses, to me all your utilites seem really inexpensive compared to here where I live.
My monthly expenses come in at just a hair under $ 4000 which is pretty much equal to my salary. They were actually higher than my salary, but we have worked really hard to lower them, and keep us able to manage if my DH is out of work.

My expenses break down like this:

Mortgage: $1100
Student loans: $304
Van: $ 416
Car: $ 228
Insurance (house, vechicles, professional): $ 346
Gas: $180
Hydro: $ 150
Daycare: $ 500 (down from almost $1000)
Telephone: $ 70
Internet: $20
Credit cards: $ 125 (down from about 400) Only one to go!!
Cell phone: $ 65
Housekeeper: $ 120 ($ 30 a week X 4 weeks)

This leaves me about $ 300 (food, incidentals, clothing, school stuff)

This does not include food or any school expenses, or any fun money.
My DH income is very sporadic so we have budgeted to be able to pay all the bills on my income only. We use his income for debt reduction and savings, and for fun money. Once all our debt is paid our goal is to save 50% of his income when he is working.

I see a big difference just in our water bills. You say for water, you pay $150 a month, but I only pay $18 a month for water. We are on city water, but we have septic for sewer since we live in the country. We are a family of three, but my Dh does travel quite a bit. Dh and Ds both take showers, and I take a mixture of showers and baths (depending on if I have time for a long leisurely soak or not). Our dog hates baths, and because he's a tiny toy breed, we wash him in about an inch of water (which we use cups to drizzle on him in between telling him what a good boy he is and how brave he is, etc. LOL! :-D). I hand-wash dishes, and I do laundry once a week in an extra large capacity washer/dryer (two loads--one light, one dark).

If I DON'T include food, gas, clothes, pets, home improvements or entertainment.

And INCLUDE medical bills, cable, secured loans, CC, condo fees, electricity, mortgage, monthly Roth IRA, cell phone, any insurances, property/city taxes; it works out to be roughly $2000 a month.

I would like to have some of the loans and medical bills paid off so I can actually start saving money and not just pay off debt.

I should mention that it is just me on that amount.
