Tonight, Dh came to me and said, "Walmart's selling a 42" Plasma TV for a thousand dollars!" Not knowing anything about plasma tvs, I said, "That's nice", and he said, "Yeah, we should buy one!". I looked at him in disbelief. He said we could put it on the card and just pay it off over time! ACK! I told him to get more information on it and see if it's really a good deal. Not only would we have to pay $1000, but it's the early-morning car trip to Walmart and facing the crush of shoppers at 5am when they open the door! And because it's a big item, it would take both of us to carry it, which means that our son would have to go...and he'd have to see the true commercialism of Christmas with adults fighting each other for the last of whatever item they had gone to get. That's not what I wanted this Christmas to be about. I got my shopping done early so I could stay home and relax this holiday season.

But luckily, when he checked into it more, he saw the resolution was pretty bad on it, and it wasn't HDTV compatible, so I suggested we wait until next year, and maybe the better models will be the highlighted holiday special then. He agreed. Thank goodness!! I dodged that bullet.....a thousand dollars saved!! :-D

I'm curious to see what will happen with the TV's. I was a radio/television major in college graduated in 1994. Read lots of stuff on how everything would be digital within the next few years (from that time). Then I taught lab sections of a media class in the late 1990's and the professor kept saying by 2001 we would all be switched over. I do think this time it might be real...but it amuses me to think about my desire to put off buying a TV in the early 1990's because of a switch that is taking more like 15 years.

All I've got to say is that if TV's go all digital in the next few years, then I'm going to be watching an awful lot of movies. I refuse to by a new TV just because of something like that. I just got a new TV two year ago because the TV I'd had since I was a kid finally went out. And it I got as a Christmas gift. I dread to think about spending again on a TV, I have a pretty nice entertainment system now so it's gonna have to do until something goes out.
