Hi, everyone. Well, I am the turkey of the month. Roasted by DH. Stuffed with overspending on Thanksgiving. Trussed and strung up with an additional $1500 added to the cc the last 3 months. How stupid can one be? Apparently, no one but me. Sooo---DH has decided to take the 10K from the refi (it has to be deposited by a certain time) and pay off my car payment ($6700) and the medical bills. The cc is gone. The card to the credit union, I cut up into a million pieces so I wont be tempted to raid it. Action plan: l) Ssek new or additional job in NY. 2) Take the $300+ for car payment and put it into the e-fund. Yes, it means driving awhile to get there, but at least I cant take it out. 3) Increase from 15% to 20% in 401K thing. 4) DH set up stock account at his bank. Have had enough. Whiz.

Whiz,

Please don't beat yourself up about this. You spent too much on the cards...we've all done that. If we hadn't, we wouldn't be here. :-D It sounds like you and Dh have a plan worked out to remedy the situation, though. Increasing your 401K is a wonderful idea. I wish we had that much going into our retirement account. I think we only have 7% going in right now.

Everything will be ok.

Hugs,
Pat :-D

Hi, Pat. Thanks for hugs. It has been a rough week for me (work, tests, etc.). I feel the only thing I am good at is cooking. I spent a bundle on Thanksgiving food and for work parties. DH and I had a big fuss. We apologized to each other. I said what needed to be said, that I was resentful of his having $12-15K in his account. He countered by saying I would have blown it (probably right). So, we agreed to have him put the $$ in his account, to pay off my car and mounting medical bills. There goes any hope of saving for kitchen, yard, etc. I honestly dont know how to save for big-ticket items----furniture, yard, carpet, etc. It seems it will take me years. But, have to start over. Sooo, am taking advice (again!) to shore up the e-fund. Whiz.

Hey Whiz,

I use to like to spend money on ridiculous things. I changed the "what I obsess over" to money. I want to try to get as much money as possible. Its now thrilling to see my balance climb every month in my ef, and the cc debt decline.

I just stopped carrying cards. Then a few weeks later I just sent them through the shredder. Now I do not even act like they are "revolving" credit. I treat them like its a debt that I am tired of paying every month. When I go shopping I take cash, what I don't have I can't spend.

Maybe a cash system will be the best bet for you.

Thanks, Shannon for insight. How much cash do you take out? Per day or per week? I would really have to watch my ATM debits more closely. I think cash is King. Then, I guess if it runs out, that's it. Whiz.

I only take the cash that I budgeted for. For instance we budget $200 a month for groceries. So I take $100 every other week to the grocery store. I budget $500 for Christmas so thats all I take to the store. So its very easy to stay within the budget if you take no other means but cash to pay for the items
