Sometimes if it wasn't for bad luck...

I would have no luck at all. I took a vacation day on Friday and thought I could get a ton of stuff done with DH at work and DS at school. Well I went to get my oil changed and low and behold my water pump was bad. They wanted to charge me $145 for labor and a new pump. I told them to wait. I called around to the local parts stores and asked how much a new water pump would be. $21.97. That is a long way off from $145.00. I think sometimes there are some very bad people out there that like to try to take advantage of "stupid" women. I called my dear old dad next and asked him if he would fix it for me and I would take him to dinner. Thank goodness for dear old dad and my DH helped too. So I took him to dinner ($22.00 pump + $15 dinner = $52) A whole heck of a lot cheaper than $145.00.
All in all I guess it didn't turn out to bad. It just upsets me when people try to take advantage of other people. (BTW My dad and DH had the new water pump in my car in about 20 mins. I just can't see paying $123 for 20 mins of labor.)

Aren't Dads the best? My dad is also very car savvy. Can't say the same of my husband.
MYM
I used to love when my Dad could fix my car also. He lives 600+ miles away now, though. LOL!
Around here, DH isn't very handy at all. If I waited for him to do something simple like mowing the grass, the grass would grow up around my knees. LOL! So I handle everything now. I do all the minor car repairs (and some major ones if I can find manuals to help me do it), yard care, house repairs, appliance repairs, etc.
It's really satisfying to be able to fix something cheaper than the "pros". :-D
Pat :-D
Good for you! I'm impressed with your nerve and resourcefullness. I need a relative with car fixit know-how.
