I voted for media pressure. Thankfully I'm not giving in, but I'm not sure how much of that is willpower and how much of that is lack of mucho-money. LOL! The commercial I least like right now is the one for Lexus where a wife is sitting at a desk, looking at her laptop, searching for the perfect gift for her husband, and she's looking at golf and clothing stores....and as she gazes over her shoulder in frustration, she glances out the window to see a car parked in front of her neighbor's fancy wrought iron gate that has a huge red bow on it....but it makes it look like the bow was on the car that was parked next to it. She gets a look of great inspiration, and then you see her leading her husband to their driveway at night, her hands blindfolding him, and then removing her hands to see that she's bought her husband a Lexus, and as his jaw drops in shock, she smiles as if she's just won a Gold Medal....she's 'done it'.....bought the perfect gift. I'm sure I'm supposed to drool at this commercial and say, "Wow, I've got to do that same thing!", but then I laugh and think that if my husband ever did that for me, my first reaction would be to turn around in shock and disbelief and say, "Oh My Gosh! You bought this without telling me!?! What kind of payment did you stick us with for the next 4-6 years, Dear!?!" and probably announced, "Nice gift...too bad it's going back!" LOL!! :-D

Commercials are always showing happy families squished onto a couch and tossing gifts to each other, happily talking amongst each other, everyone well behaved (even the children), and it's just too unrealistic. LOL!

I chose from myself because I hate the feeling I get when I see all of presents that Dh's family exchanges and gives us ~~and then there's our couple little gifts for them. I shouldn't feel that way, but the last few years I've bought more for them just to feel good. I know they (DH's parents) don't expect it, but I don't like looking cheap!

I voted family. My husband thinks gifts are important, and of course my five year old does, too. Too bad we can't afford any gifts. My son already got an early present: a pet parakeet. :) And that is probably all he is getting from me.
