Debt collector dispute?

I just took a look at my credit report and nearly fell over. I had a great credit score the last time I looked and now I've got some collection account on there that has majorly dropped my score. It's from PALISADES COLLECTION and I never recieved any notice (phone, mail, email) of this account. The attempt to collect is regarding an AT&T wireless account. I haven't had AT&T Wireless for at least 7 years and when we switched to Verizon it was paid in full. I don't get it.

I did a Google search on the name and came up with this:
http://www.prnewsnow.com/PR%20News%20Releases/Consumer/Collection%20Industry%20Once%20Again%20Braces%20For%20Major%20Federal%20Court%20Case%20Consumers%20Becoming%20More%20Savvy%20Through%20Internet%20Research
and

What can I do?

I am no expert...but I would write a letter to each credit reporting agency (Equifax, etc.) informing them that this information is inaccurate and you would like them to investigate.

Good luck!

I've reported to all 3 agencies that the claim is not an account I ever opened. I will be calling the debt collector tomorrow to get account # and other related info then I'll be calling Cingular (who recently bought out AT&T). I'll let you know how it goes.
