New Year's Financial Resolutions?
| Mon, 12-12-2005 - 10:18pm |
Hi all. I'm trying to work out a financial plan for myself for 2006 and I wondered if any of you ladies have New Year's financial resolutions.
My financial resolutions for 2006 are:
1) GET MY CREDIT SCORE UP!
2) Pad my savings accounts to start building up an emergency fund and just have some extra put aside.
3) Make a budget and stick to it for good. This include pouring over statements, checking accounts very frequently, utilizing Microsoft money, etc.
4) Generally getting myself in much better financial shape.
5) NOT OVERDRAW MY CHECKING ACCOUNT ONCE!!!
Those are the ones that stick out the most in my mind right now. :) I have resolved to myself that I WILL and I MUST stick to those resolutions.
Cheers!

Here are my list of goals/resolutions for 2006:
1. Pay of at least 1/2 of oustanding non-mortgage debt approx $5K by Dec 31st 2006
2. Learn to be comfortable and fulfilled being a single woman (i.e. don't look for a remplacement man for the STBX in order to feel validated)
3. Save up more money in the emergency fund, at least $1500 plus all non-monthly occuring expenses (property/school taxes, home insurance, car registration etc...)
4. Slowly on a part-time evening basis, take one or two classes per semester work towards my University Finance degree.
5. Continue to follow my monthly budgets but allow for a little splurge once in awhile to ward off backsliding ;)
6. Look for more alternatives sources of income via singing gigs and modelling assignments.
I wish everyone success in keeping up with their resolutions!

Hey thanks everybody for posting here and to angelpie for beginning the thread...
I feel so enthused after reading what everybody wrote. I, too, have the very same resolutions that were repeated several times. I have started a plan to slowly save and repay the debts that exist and intend to spend only on necessities so as not to add to the debt.
While my kids are at their Dad's this week, I intend to weed through my file cabinet, desk area, etc. and toss extraneous papers and make sure everything is organized and handy. I find that when I experience clutter in my surroundings, I don't think as clearly as when things are tidy and organized. I've worked up a spending plan (I don't like to say that nasty word, "budget") for the first few months of 2006, in which I should be able to accomplish some saving and debt payments. Wish me luck!!!!
Happy new year to all!

Our financial resolutions are very specific and are listed in order of importance:
1. Save DH's Bonus and our Tax return. We won't apply it to debt this year because we want to have a big cushion as well as add more to our down payment for us to buy a house.
2. STOP USING CC!! I froze all of our cc right after Christmas and now we have no choice but to use cash for everything.
3. Balance my checkbook once a week.
4. Continue to snowflake at all opportunites in addition to the $1300 we currently send to cc payments now. *this is not our minimum payment. It is what we have budgetted in to pay off our cc faster.
5. Pay off one of our vehicles by 12/31/2006.
6. Save $600.00 every month no matter what.
7. By 03/01/2006 - pay off chase card
8. By 06/01/2006 - Pay off Providian card
9. By 12/31/2006 - Pay off Citicard

Hello,
My resolutions are:
1) Send regular payments to freedom accounts for:
Christmas 2006
Italy Trip 2006
Auto Insurance
Auto Maintenance
Home Maintenance
I've set up "labeled" savings accounts at Ing Direct for these, so I can use the "automatic savings" feature to pull a certain amount from the checking account on payday. Ing Direct lets you me set a nickname for each account, so I don't have to worry about "mentally dividing" one savings account into several sub accounts. I haven't decided how much to send to some of the accounts yet. The auto insurance and Christmas 2006 are easy to budget. The others, I'm not sure yet.
2) Use Tax refund (if any) and Bonus to pay down debt.
3) Modify W-2 so less tax is withheld. Snowflake additional income.
4) Send DH's unemployment benefits to pay down debt.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke
