I'm sorry the gift wasn't in the form of money, but on the other hand, at least you can hope to sell it for cash in the future. So in that sense, it's a good gift. If it were a Timex from Walmart, you wouldn't have had a high resale value. I've never dealt with a Pawn Broker, but maybe someone here knows if they are fair on the price they give for jewelry and watches. That might be the fastest way to get some cash if it's needed in a hurry. Being that Christmas is just a few days away, I'm not sure you will get a big payout from Ebay. I could be wrong about that also. I'm just trying to think of ways to turn that watch into something you and your husband can actually use (money).

Wishing you a joyous Holiday season no matter what you and Dh decide! :-D

HI, Kathy. A Rolex watch? And, he works in construction? It's a nice, but impractical gift. My dad got a watch when he retired after about 30 yrs. More companies are giving bonuses, stock, extra days off, etc. Could your DH negotiate for more days off, or flexible hours this year? We got a nice dinner and a small gift card. Try selling the watch on e-bay, and see what happens. WHiz.

Any "Rolex" you would buy on a streetcorner in NY or LA (or anywhere else for that matter) would be worth about half the $20 or so you'd pay for it. If the gift your husband received is a real Rolex, it is possible that its value could approximate the bonus he expected to receive. You will get your best price by having it appraised by a reputable jeweler, then putting it into an auction of jewelry and watches. The appraiser should be able to direct you to a reputable auction house that holds specialized jewelry and watch auctions.
